RAID 1 question.

I currently have a RAID 1 setup on this pc. I am changing cpu/motherboard from AMD to Intel and have a couple of questions. It's the built in function of the board, not a seperate hardware controller.

1)

If I want to keep the setup, are there any issues simply switching over and resetting it up on the new board? or will there be issues due to the change from AMD to Intel?

2)

I'm not 100% sure I want to keep it. There's a lot of junk as well that doesn't really need the redundancy. So I think I might like to go back to a single drive and then just manually back up the most important stuff.

As it's just mirrored, can I just pop one of the two out and just run the remaining drive as normal, and then stick the other in a usb enclosure to backup only what is needed.

I have swapped many a RAID 1 setups between the different version of the intel ICH 7 -> 8 -> 9 without any issues before but I have never tried it from AMD -> Intel so hopefully some one else can help you with that.

I removed my RAID 1 arrays about a year ago as I no longer needed the redundancy. All I did with the Intel RAID controller was remove the drives from the RAID array and set them to AHCI instead of RAID in the bios. I then had two hard drives with the exact same files on as you would expect. I formatted one of them and that was that.

Thanks. I think I want rid of it, rather than swapping it over.

I think it's all the controller? Nothing is done to the drives? So I should be able to just remove one and put it in the new intel system and it will show up as normal and other into a usb enclosure.

Or should I set them back to normal on the amd system before switching.
