Hi all, ive just ordered a new motherboard, ram and RAID controller.
I installed everything and working perfectly as expected until it came to setup the RAID.

I booted the PC and was prompted to hit CTRL+J to open the RAID console, once open i setup a RAID 0 to my two 160GB SATA drives. (It saw the drives with no problems)

Once the RAID was created (didnt require any time to actually build) the status was NORMAL, from past experiences i always had to initialize the RAID but this time i didnt have too.

Once done i saved and rebooted the PC and started the Windows 7 installation, once i got to the HDD selection part i was told no hardware was detected and that i should install the 3rd party drivers, i inserted the Vista/7 cd and it displayed the two .inf files i required (\floppy32\jraid_f.inf).
After selecting the driver needed it tells me no hardware is detected and i cannot complete the installation!

So my question is, i need an affordable RAID controller, does anyone have any suggestions??

Current Card:

StarTech PEXSATA221
Startech Storage Controller (RAID)
SATA-300 300 MBps
RAID 0, 1, JBOD
PCI Express x1

Many thanks

Thats what i thought but their tech support insisted it was supported by windows 7 and the driver cd does say Vista/7...

Odd.. I've never liked the JMicron controller. Does you Motherboard not support RAID? Is this for a dedicated server?

I'm going to move this to storage btw :)

Thanks :)

No this is for my gaming PC, i have a 4tb RAID 1 NAS drive for backup and store no data on my pc so i want the performance boost.

I just ordered a Adaptec SC1220SA SATA RAID Controller after checking the drivers on the website, this card seems to be windows 7 supported... unless you can suggest something better?

It's a shame its the E version of your motherboard doesn't support RAID. You could just buy a second hand Abit IP35 with the ICH9R chipset as that supports Raid 0, 1 5 and 10. You could just swap the motherboard out with minimal fuss. No need to reinstall windows and a second hand should be a lot less than the card.
