OK, here's my situation.

I used to have a server setup with two 500GB HDDs in a RAID 1 configuration for file storage. The RAID was setup using the Windows Software RAID solution.

I have since had to repurpose the server, but I still have the HDDs that hold the data.

I wanted to plug them into another machine to read the data off of the HDDs to move them to my NAS, but I'm wondering if plugging them in like a normal HDD will cause them to wipe/lose the data?

If I take a single HDD from the RAID array and plug it into my gaming PC, will it be able to read the data from it so I can just move it over?

you can plug one of them into another machine and read the files off, but if you plug them both into a Windows Vista Ultimate or Windows 7 Ultimate machine it should just recognise the drives as an array (may work with lesser versions of 7/vista, im not sure which are yes/no though) and the drive will show up in my computer as both of these systems support dynamic disks and windows software raid

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on my gaming rig. I don't really want to plug them both in, I just want to plug one in and get the data off it. You reckon one on its own would work?

if you were running them in raid1 then they should be identical baring the info that sets them apart, I had the main disk die on a windows raid1 array a few years back and when I set the other one to boot first in bios it came up with an option screen like the safemode/normal/etc screen and let me boot normally off that disk. If you plug one of them into your gaming rig you should be able to access the info you need

Awesome, OK. I just wanted to check incase plugging it into a non-RAID setup will cause the disk to wipe or something. Cheers mate.
