Hi,
If I plan on RAID0+1 is there any point in getting two 10000rpm VelociRaptors as my main pair, and then 2 7200rpm WDC caviar as my back up pair? Will the harddrives be only as quick as the 7200rpm? Or will the performance for be the same as if I had only 2 10000rpm hdds?

Thanks

Runs at speed of slowest component. Or damned close to that anyway.
You probably don't want two raptors. Budget and intended use please?

Not that important, but raid 0+1 is not raid 1+0. You want the latter. If you have two raid 0 pairs, and you mirror them, that's raid 0+1. If one goes down, no issues. If two go down, computer is down. If you have two mirrors, and raid 0 them, then you can lose one drive from each pair with no ill effects. Lose both from one pair and you're still down though. The probabilty of the array failing is much nicer with raid 1+0 (= raid 10).

I bought 4 samsung drives for raid 10, and eventually went to raid 5. More capacity, and the suspicion that the array was faster than the raptor running beside them went away. Not made any difference really, but I don't run an operating system off them. So yeah, intended use?

Set up 2 separate raid arrays a 0 and 1 raptors in raid1 and the 2 storage drives in raid2, thats what i have.
