Rail Simulator

I have been waiting for this for a very long time now. I was very dissapointed when EA was releasing it. There's supposed to be ingame advertising too. I will be waiting to see how others get on with it before buying it myself.

In the meantime, Aurans Trainz Railway Simulator 2004 is miles better than MSTS, especially when you download the Razorback Railway add ons and scenarios.

Didn't realise it was out - thought it had been delayed a few more months! Are they planning on releasing a demo?

Officially released tomorrow although some places have shipped early.

My first impressions:

With a good set of editing and construction tools, with the developer saying the more powerfull tools are yet to be released but will be at some point, this could be one fantastic simulator.

Does seem to be very resource hungry although with all eye candy enabled, does look very nice, maybe even worth a Physx card to make the foliage on the sidings and the fog look better :) Plus ive noticed more newer releases using the Physx technology so wouldnt be complete waste.

Audio is great, I was playing with headphones but would definitely be worth trying on a surround sound setup. The enviromental sounds seem very well done. Engine sounds also sound good.

Indeed, what spec PC are you guys running and do you get reasonable performance.

My current rig is a 3 Ghz P4, Geforce 6600 GT, 2 GB RAM. Does it have the power to run it at a decent speed?

Frame rate is terrible :(

Running a q6600 at 3.6ghz with 4gb ram, 8800gts clocked quite high and getting 22fps in stations, and when in cab view stays similar but stutters a lot :( thats at 1600x1050

Doesnt look that much better than msts to be honest :( trainz is better i think.

I'm tempted by this.

Also had a look at the trainz website and can anyone explain the difference between Trainz Railroad Sim 2006, Trainz Classics and Trainz Driver??

any info on what routes are available as standard? cant find it on there website....

...i might get this for my dad... yeah.... honest ;)
