I'm not comfortable with the direction R6 has been heading. Back in the day, it was a realistic, tactical shooter with complex planning and squad elements. Now it's just another shooter. Obviously the original wasn't for everyone, but for it to turn into a fairly decent generic shooter (especially when the market is saturated with generic shooters) was something that was lamented by many gamers.
Case in point: Realism used to be a bastion of the R6 games, but the new trailer shows a 3 man team storming a fairly large theater, Gears of War style. One man is armed with an M249 SAW belt-fed light machine gun, (a poor choice for the mission profile) and he starts shooting up the place like he's some kind of Rambomatic killing machine rather than a highly trained special forces operative. The enemy combatants appear to use some form of Hollywood-esque laser sighting system on their firearms.
To add insult to injury, in the first trailer for the previous game, the squad's "sniper" looks as though he's never fired a rifle. He lowers his head (after stretching his neck) so that he can look through the scope, rather than simply raising the rifle into the proper position.
The same goes for Ghost Recon.
Guys, it sounds as if I'm picking nits, but the R6 games used to be extremely realistic. Obviously the developers made these decisions to pander to the arcade crowd. Don't get me wrong, I love Gears of War as much as the next person, but I feel that there are enough of these shooters on the market, and that the next R6 game should take a more realistic bent.
Yea i remember the old days of rainbow from the very first to raven shield, the first one was great!
I paid most attention to rogue spear, you had a huge selection of weapons and equipment to pick from, you could create 4 tactical teams with 4 members in each, you could select their weapons, camo, armour and equipment. you could even select gun attachments i think you could in rogue spear but i know you can in raven shield.
Anyway so i stopped playing rainbow for a while after that until the xbox recieved ravenshield, i was so excited to see it back and it came back in all glory for what it was known for, first thing i noticed was the content, no where near the same as the pc version, sure you had your guns and equipment but no armour, camo and team mates to pick from.
you could not plan your assault and switch to any of the 16 team mates. One thing i like was the fact you had classes demo, assault recon etc... each rainbow member had stats when a guy was killed in action they were taken off the team roster so you had the whole team manager thing going on who to play in certain games, have a good mix of skills.
However ravenshield was the first game i played online and wow i am still happy to this day with what they did with the game even thou it cut a lot of the content on the console.
so then we had that rainbow after which was like a add on which again was cool but then we had the rainbow which no one liked cant even remember the name coz it was so crap, really shamed the rainbow games.
so on to vegas! i liked traveling to different locations, from the desert to the jungle to a city appartment! why vegas! same old stuff all the time. yes the idea of being able to repel down buildings was sweet but the gameplay was not so tactical, its too fast paced, the health system should be like the original, like seriously who recovers from a gun shot in a few seconds lol. The whole realism was taken out of the game. grenades felt weak, the guns were weak, people prefered using small automatic weapons instead of your assault rifles.
main thing i hated was the co-op the whole respawning of AI, everyone knew where they were coming from, ok so i step here and 3..2..1 oh look exactly where i knew they were going to come from, graphics were terrible and i wished all AI were placed on the map randomly each time, the whole reactions of the AI were bad, they knew exactly where you were.
huge rant but hey this game should go back to its roots, people want a fps which is different sometimes
