I just noticed something with my ram . I have 2 identical pairs of Team group 8 pack edition 16GB 3600mhz installed on my ASrockx570 Tiachi. CPU-z is reporting them as single ranked. which is strange?

Did you put them into the same channel DIMM slots accidentally? Check manual to make sure you have right slots in use.

Bah, misread you having 1 pair, not 2 pairs. My bad.

Single Ranked in that case is about the DIMM Modules themselves, as they could be Dual Ranked as well. Shouldn't be anything strange there.

:: further edit for clarification ::
DIMM Modules can be Single or Dual Ranked (which is what you're reading about your DIMM right now. This is different from Single or Dual "Channel" which is what the memory channel is running at. So you can have (in theory) Dual "Channel" for Memory that is made up of Dual "Rank" DIMMS (so x4 in this motherboards case). Or you could have Dual "Channel" for Memory that is made up of Single "Rank" DIMMs too. So long as they are all seen by the system, there's nothing to be concerned about there.

Hi. I have 2 pairs of dual channel (4 sticks) but looking at the reported serial numbers i have put one pair in slot 1 and 2 and the other pair in slot 3 and 4. Which is probably the problem
Funny thing is it has been like that for over a year since i added the other 16 GB ram, and have not noticed any performance hit.

Edit.... Just checked the sticks they are single ranked. Its my tired holiday brain

If all four sticks have the same dies underneath and same timings you wouldn't see any performance hit.

As far as I'm aware, 8 Pack DDR4 kits used to be exclusively Samsung B die, and 16Gbit B die (so 2x16GB kits) can only be dual ranked. They later introduced Crucial E die single ranked kits into the 8 Pack range, so that's probably where the confusion is coming from.

There's nothing wrong with that config, you're fine.

Are these 8GB sticks or 16GB sticks?

8GB sticks are always single rank (unless they're really old, some old DDR4 8GB sticks were dual ranked).

16GB sticks from 8 Pack were originally dual rank (Samsung B-Die as mentioned above), but DDR4 16GB sticks are mostly single rank nowadays, since the old dies were retired in favour of high density ones.

For clarity: dual channel and dual rank are not the same thing. Dual channel refers to the number of memory channels available on the motherboard/supported by the CPU. Single/dual rank refers to the memory only.

There's technically no such thing as dual channel DDR4 memory, the manufacturer just stuck two 'identical' sticks in the same package.
