Ram Sockets Broken?

Forgive the 3rd question today, but on my Maximus IV Extreme the two left most sockets do not work.

I put 2 ram sticks on the right side, and it worked fine. I took 1 ram stick and put it on the left side and I get error 58 on the motherboard, which means "CPU test failed or CPU cache error".

I have 16GB ram I want to put in, but seem to be stuck with 8 now. I'd hate for the motherboard to be ******.

The limit on my board is 32GB. Do I have to set any BIOS settings to allow for more than 8GB?

To confirm, the 2 ram sticks work on the right side, but not on the left side.

Computer works fine if ram sticks are on the right side.

What happens if you put the two working sticks of ram from the right side, into the left side?

Make sure you set the RAM speed, timings and voltage manually in the BIOS.

If they don't work after that then there may be to much strain on the CPU socket/motherboard. Try re-seating the CPU and cooler or just use the stock cooler to test. I assume you did use the backplate with the Venom?

If that doesn't work then I'm stumped and would say it's faulty.

A1 and A2 are the faulty ones, if I use B1, B2 (working) as well as A2 (closest to B1) I get a different error on the motherboard. Error 30, which is reserved by Asus and have no idea what it means.

I am dreading having to remove all the parts to replace the motherboard :( That was painstaking.

I've re-seated the CPU various times when I first came across the problem. When it first happened I though it was the PSU, or my wiring, so stripped it, restarted. And it was the RAM in the end.

Have you tried using the stock cooler to make sure that the Venom isn't putting strain on the CPU socket or motherboard?

Should they not be in slots A1 and B1 anyway, to run in dual channel mode?

The OP is actually trying to get all 4 slots working as he has 16GB of RAM (read the original post).

All he's doing at the moment is trying to see which slots work and which don't.

And the recommended configuration for 2 sticks in dual channel is A2 and B2 on that motherboard.

The OP should update the BIOS to the latest.

Try 2 sticks in A2 and B2.

If that works try adding the sticks to A1 and B1.

If that doesn't work I still say he should try it with the stock cooler to rule out any stress being placed on the CPU socket or motherboard.
