Anyone know if the RAM and storage prices are affecting sales of other components such as motherboards, PSUs and CPUs and is it also affecting things like game sales too ?

I had a £3k budget start of the year for a new monitor and a new gaming rig. I ended up buying neither nor any new games. Is this a noticeable trend or are people just sucking up the costs ?

I don't know, but I bought an AMD 5800x3d recently on the re release, basically resigned myself to the fact I'm not doing a platform upgrade any time soon.

At some point in the next 6 months I'm probably going buy a new monitor.

Otherwise, unless anything I have breaks I'm not planning on buying any pc hardware for a while.

From my pov anything that doesn't need to be tied to ddr5 is more expensive than it would be otherwise, and stuff that is tied to using ddr5 is cheaper than it would be otherwise. Not sure about generic stuff like games, peripherals/more platform agnostic stuff not tied to a certain ram type.

Yeah I was going to go for an AM5 system as I’m still on a 5700X with 64GB of DDR4. But with what it would cost me to go for 64GB of DDR5 I’m out of the game for the foreseeable.

I had seriously considered picking up 64GB of DDR5 just to keep on standby a year or so ago when it would’ve been somewhere around £150, perhaps even cheaper, I can’t remember any more. I so wish I had.

Component prices are all over the place - some stuff like CPUs they seemed to be trying to keep prices down a bit possibly to try and keep sales going to offset the cost of a system a bit i.e. stuff like the 270K relatively keenly priced, though conversely the prices for upgrading older system parts seem to be creeping up.

Ironically I think the price of stuff like RAM will in the longer run impact the market for the people who would be using AI, etc. reducing the market for the AI, etc. companies who are part of the reason for the price increases.

I have a good desktop, it's a micro PC though, 16 core Ryzen 7, 64gb DDR5, 2TB NVMe but only has an 8GB 6600. It's quiet and low powered and pretty much perfect for everything but gaming.

My 64GB DDR5 only cost me £150 and my 2TB 990 Pro only cost £150. The cost of both of these now is about £1k.

The whole RAMageddon has put me off buying any new hardware because for me to game it would require a whole new rig and a quarter of my £2k budget would be gone just on RAMageddon price hikes.

I've just thrown the money into investments and I'll try again in a year or two when the market has hopefully fixed itself and I've made some extra money from the investments.

Price on other components have dropped loads, so much so a lot of of the increased costs will be offset in the prices you would have paid for MB/CPU/Case/PSU/Cooler etc.

Brought my RAM about 2 years ago, G.skill 8000mhz CL38 and a kit of G.Skill 6000 CL26, both were less than £200, now they are £500+ ridiculas prices, its also affecting other things like nvme drives too, so no upgrades for me in those departments until they start to make more sense, I just keep thinking, it costs them a fraction of those prices to actually make these things, especailly in the bulk they are making them in, im just glad someone is finally taking the 3 big companies to court, as if scalpers wernt a problem enough, now the big companies are doing it too.

I was looking at the 9070 XT too for Bazzite and the prices are pretty decent compared to the 5 series Nvidia.

I bought 32GB 6000mhz C30 for £99, now £479 and a Zotac 5090OC for £1899, now £3529.
Utterly mental in every way.
Not a hope in hell would I pay these prices now just for gaming.

Why would you need to build a whole new rig?

All you need to add is a better GPU like the 9070 XT like you mentioned and maybe a PSU if it's low powered.

I was looking at moving from 5800x3D to 9850x3D or something, but like many I'm just holding station for now. Everything works and I don't fancy shelling hundreds of pounds EXTRA for the performance increase. When's AM6? :D

You mean like a NUC?

I thought you just meant a MATX/MITX build.

No it's about 3-4 times bigger than a NUC and has an RX 6600 built into it and has 1 big cooler than covers the CPU and GPU.

I had a NUC before but the integrated GPU sucked.

Surely people are not buying like they used to? There must be lots of stock building up because of the very high prices?
