Ramsay in the US...

i quite like it, i dont really understand how gross some places get though, i went home for the weekend and was too hungover to clean up anything, and we dont get flies roaches or anything, its a pretty disguisting kitchen but still.. meh these guys are just SCUMMY.
New jersey was a cracker though.

The peppers and tomatos etc.. have been sitting out for way to long and a "professional" kitchen is actually a rather warm environment compared to a home, so things will go off much quicker if not properly stored.

I am watching it at 11, missed the start unfortunately.

EDIT: Rotty, I actually think the US series has been great, admittedly over acted but it's very funny when he starts laying into the self obsessed Americans.
The best episode was when he laid into the arrogant French chef. That was awesome.

Have only seen 2 of the series so far. The first one (I think) with the very aggressive guy who kept spending all the money and causing problems (with the debt collectors)
Saw the one where the manager was called Dean where they turned it into a steak house.

Both were pretty good, but I loved the UK series.

It's a very different programme compared to the UK version, but that's what the American public want; they want confrontation. Ramsey said himself that he needs to be more aggressive then he otherwise would be. At the end of the day it's entertainment not a documentary.

What I do hate about the US version is the constant repeating of scenes. Yes we've seen it once, we don't have memories of goldfish, now move on.

They're supposed to check restaurants once a year although if you've got a good record you may not see them for near enough 2 years. Similarly if you've got a bad reputation they'll be back every few months.

The ratings that the health inspectors give are now published online so before you go somewhere you can check how clean it is :)

Southampton isn't listed

I'm quite scared. I looked at the Name and Shame list and found this nestled in the reports:

Defendant: Ling Wang:
Offence: Possession for sale counterfeit DVDs including animal pornography.
Sentence: 6 months probation plus forfeiture of goods

Hmmm, wonder where those DVDs ended up :p

Just watched the latest episode on 4od. I feel a bit sick now :(

Three managers though? And that Martin bloke seemed like a bit of a ******

Bit OT, are you watching 4od on Vista? The reason I'm asking is because both iplayer and 4od just kick up script errors on my Vista with latest flash.

I've just watched episode 6 on 4od, and I can see what people mean about the way everything is repeated, it's really annoying.

American show is poor compared to the UK one, why is he so nice to the owners??? in the UK one he always took the view it was their restaurant and all problems were ultimately their responsibility.

While that Martin was a nub he did seem a little unfair on him, the operations manager seemed just as bad. To tell the owner to fire him while he was in close proximity was bang out of order and just added to make conflict, its not big brother ffs

Hells Kitchen USA is worse for the repeats, the show is on for an hour and the actual content is lucky if its 20 minutes. I agree Ramsay seems to be going a bit mad, its as if he wants to do too much stuff. He used to slate the TV chefs years ago for being on TV too much, peole like Brian Turner and AWT, but he has now surpassed them, ok he doesnt do cheesy cooking shows but he is in danger of totally over exposing himself. He was criticised lately in France as his new restaurants are becoming more detached from his cooking as he is more a business man than a chef now.

the US series had been dire, every episode the same and so obviously staged

It does feel scripted after you've seen a few.

Take 1 business on the brink of bankruptcy
Thrown in 1 annoying business owner/lead management
Chuck in a problem solving activity
Do a resturant make over
Add in some confrontation between Gordon and said annoying person
Mix it with cruel editing

= Predictable stuff
