Random 3D printing chatter

That is a long print and a lot of filament. Is that that server version of ps5?

I'm in bed already. I have voron 300. I will see how long will this take and let you know. Where do you live?

edit: you need even bigger printer .. some parts are 300 wide..

Would someone with a large(r) print bed be able to print the top, bottom and side panels from this model for me please?

Sadly they won't fit on my P1S and I've just talked myself out of a new printer for the sake of these parts lol.

Of course happy to pay postage/filament/time etc.

Thanks

Should be fairly easy to split those longer panels in half for printing on your p1s.

What's the best app to use to create new or edit existing models?
I've no experience with this sort of thing but figure my recently bought Bambu Labs printer might be more useful if I can come up with my own stuff than relying on using stuff done by others.

Fusion is free for personal use. There's some limitations like the number of editable documents you can have concurrently (10) but it's more an irritation than anything else. You can't do 5-axis CAM or CAM for tool changers...but none of that matters to 3D printer design.

I really didn't like TinkerCad in my pursuit of trying to find something to make quick and simple models for 3d printing.

However, the longer I stay away from SketchUp, the more it's starting to click.

I started on SketchUp but when it changed company it went strange. The hardest thing in switching is the change in movement controls you always find you're pressing the wrong mouse button to move/pan/tilt etc at first. They're pricey but I can recommend the Space Mouse (I went with the Compact because more than pricey enough already) if you're going to do much in the way of modelling. It lets you move about in six axes with one controller - so left/right/up/down/forward/backward/rotate/twist all on one thing.

Been trying Fusion 360. Gosh darn that's more complicated than I expected!
I don't really know what I expected. I guess this explains why there's such demand for the sites with ready made stuff on them!

That mouse looks well cool @Cenedd. Can't justify it myself yet because I'm still struggling to find some software I gel with.

@Frozennova Thanks for this, I think Solid Works might be worth trying for this price.

Oh, bought some Phillips Fidelio X2HR before Xmas as I'd broken my Beyerdynamic 990's, and two plastic parts snapped rendering them effectively useless. Looked at the price of some replacement parts and considering they are 7ish years old and are on their last legs anyway, stumped up the cash for something new.

Shortly aftwards bought my A1 mini, and eventually stumbled upon some replacement part files on Makersworld. Download, open, print. DT990's back in action, returned the Phillips, £100 saved. Machine has practically paid for itself.

Just wondering as I've started looking into it, what do people do about desiccant?
Probably mostly applies to people with an AMS but I guess also relevant for spare filament storage too.

I've been cutting open the little sachets stockpiling them for some reason

Bought a couple of kg of the orange colour-changing beads and use those in both AMS and filament storage. Dry it in the oven for 90 mins and about 100-120°C and it's good to go again. Apparently the colour changing stuff can have cobalt in it (might only be the blue type, not sure) so you may not want direct contact with food surfaces - I just use a tray folded from oven parchment in a baking tray.

I also use the colour change stuff. I printed out a load of "claymore" type containers to put dessicant in such as these and these (don't use the ones that go in the centre of the spool if you use vacuum bags) and put a couple around the spool when I put the spool in it's container and seems to keep moisture down below 16%. I use these containers to keep my filament in but if you have slightly wider spools such as the Deeplee cardboard spools you want the 2.5ltr containers.
