Random 3D printing chatter

If we're talking storage, the ultimate evolution is probably this:

Not sure I can be bothered to swap 30 of them over though! Incidentally, if you're looking at the springs for the rewinder then it's actually significantly cheaper to buy the from the US (via link on video) than it is to buy them from the UK - on the same merchant platform.

Not to mention the insane amount of time and space needed for all that (and filament printing all the innards).

I must have 30 rolls of open filament of various kinds kicking around.

I finally caved and decided it's time to move on from the Ender3, with the Sprite Pro, 4.2.7 motherboard and BLTouch it's certainly not a bad printer, but it'll never print paticularly quick.

P1S should certainly be a nice upgrade and at £339 at the moment is not a particularly expensive upgrade either. Now to impatiently wait like a small child

Happy days!

I was waiting for a few weeks for the A1 Combo!

Still not put the AMS Lite through it's paces...

Nice one! I feel I've still got a lot of life in my Ender 3 yet. Klipper and dual belted Z mod have really helped with speed and quality, along with an array of other mods. It does me for what I need it for.

Nice price on the P1S though, I'm sure it'll be quite the upgrade for you.

I could probably throw some more money at the Ender3 to get some more life but it feels like diminishing returns.

I’m sure I could easily spend half to two thirds of the cost of the P1S again on upgrades but it would still be an OG Ender3 that I originally bought in 2016. It’s still a bed slinger so has the kinematic disadvantages where speed etc are concerned, isn’t enclosed

*Cough* 3D printed shelf brackets *cough* :D

That's not 30! Nope, the top deck has grown a mezzanine since this was taken :D
I've started my own set of this, just need to get the shelving done. Do you load directly from the tubs as well or just use them for storage it looks like?

Mostly I use them for storage and just swap in/out of my AMS. I have one with a fitting for PTFE tube that feeds the A1 Mini...but I've not managed to run that spool out yet (mainly just small test pieces to test design while something else is printing). I decided after drilling the first hole for a fitting that it was a painfully one-way process so I designed a plug that takes a fitting and fits into one of the pouring nozzles that comes with the boxes. It's not as good as the TPU fittings in the video I linked (they plug the hole and also allow you to fish the filament out) but it's done me so far.
I tend to get a bit obsessed with one particular filament and use that to the exclusion of all others...which then sit in storage until something needs them - usually a particular colour.

If the nozzle fitting plug thing is any use to you, I can post the STEP for you.

@pastymuncher do those 2L containers fit Bambu spools?
Yes but it's a tight fit like the Deeplee cardboard spools so I would be happier with the 2.5ltr versions. If you get a bundle like I did with the lids twisted they want to pop undone with the larger spools as they are slightly too large really for the containers and push against the underside of the lid. Other spools are fine especially when they are stacked on top of each other which has straightened the lids out after a couple of months.

P1S arrived and I'm absolutely blown away.

Plugged it in, let it run it's calibration and immediately fired off a benchy straight out the box that looks as good if not slightly better than any I've had from the Ender3, and in a third of the time it would take on the Ender. Now continuing with some "Rugged Clip lock boxes" that I'd planned on printing and held off on as They were going to take about 16 hours each on the Ender3, which will be down to 3.5 hours or so on the P1S

Now now...you're just upsetting him...and those of us with X1C's too! :p :D
I didn’t mean it like that. The P1S is a fantastic printer, particularly at its now reduced price. I’ve owned one for a while.

All I meant was there is even better out there in the market now (for a price of course).

I knew where you were coming from.

Honestly I’d have gone the whole hog and bought a H2D with the laser module if it wasn’t for the fact that I’ll be selling up/packing up my life to move across the Atlantic to Canada in a little over a year

Oh I didn't take it as meant badly...I just have H2 envy! :D Trying to work out if I can justify an H2C to do a print run of 400 sets of two parts....I'm not sure the maths works out :( Especially when I compare it to something like a MultiJet process at somewhere like JLC

Well ive finally joined the fold.

My brother kindly brought me a A1 Mini, hes been getting into the hobby a bit with a flamboyant purchase of a P2S (think thats the right model).

The kids and I have been thoroughly enjoying the technology on show for a consumer level device, its rather fascinating.

A few small fidget toys, and some practical prints later and its safe to say the bug has bitten.

Id like to try learn to adapt and design a few small things myself over time, but the entry to that seems quite daunting.

So far ive only printed on PLA basic Black, and today some Sunlu PLA+ Silk (green and purple) colour change stuff arrived alongside some PLA+ Wood, which i wont touch until i get a hardened hot end to swap.

Currently my favourite print was the spool adapter with bearings in, which was a genius bit of design from whoever created it, with the close second being a small headphone hook for the acoustic panels that line my little computer / hobby area.

Just set a print off for a phone / tablet mount for the car steering wheel for when i have to sit in the car for an hour (in winter) once a week whilst my daughter does a martial arts class. When summer comes i usually use the time for a 5k run or a walk.
