Random 3D printing chatter

Adjust the gap between the support and the model rather than using support material, not sure what slicer you are using but its something like interface layer or somethink like that.

Tried to print this on engineering plate but the first layer would not adhere.

I was trying to print PETG basic. The nozzle temperature was 245 degrees C and the plate 70 degrees C.

A thin layer of hairspray and the first layer finally stuck to the plate.

Is there anything wrong about the standard Bambu Lab printer settings that could have fixed this without adhesive?

Engineering plate always needs glue as I understand (I've always used glue with ours, but I only use it for ABS)

Standard petg is a bit of a pain in the ass usually; try the Bambu PETG HF or another brand's PETG "Rapid" like Elegoo. I have never had an issue with adhesion on the Rapid variants and never used glue or hairspray even when I had a Bambu Mini.

The Bambu Mini never had an engineering plate....

I think using support filament on single nozzle printer would be a nightmare. It could add multiple hours to the print time of even a simple object due to all the purging required.
Ideally you don't use the support filament for all layers, only a few for the interfacing layers. I have never actually used it myself so theory rather than experience!

Looks like Bambu Lab have jacked up their prices for filament bulk buys.

Used to be 43% off when buying 10 rolls, now just 33%.

There was also a firmware update for my P2S that I declined as I couldn't find the change log. I am expecting them to at some point prevent 3rd party filaments and I don't want to get locked in if I can prevent it.

Preventing 3rd party filaments would be a bold (crazy) move.

Its all that business with them blocking 3rd party apps from controlling the printer can only mean they are thinking about it. Just like what happens with ink jet printers. I mean they already have RFID chips in the rolls ready to go. Maybe I am just being a bit paranoid.

Maybe they'll go fully HP and charge you by the mm used? :p

I haven't updated my P1S in many months now since they did some firmware changes earlier in the year regarding the use of third party slicers via some 'authorisation control' for enhanced security bs.

I mostly use Sunlu filament (even though I can't find any decent coloured refills atm) so I don't really want issues with using them.

I know its fashionable for bash Bambu but the base price of say a PLA Matt refill used to be £17.99 a year ago, its now only £13.99.

Buying 10 rolls today costs only £0.73p more than it did a year ago (£90 vs £93.73) despite the offer dropping from 45% off to 33% off. But if you are buying a full price filament, you are paying way less than you used to. They have really jacked those prices....

Can we at least pick something real instead of making up nonsense conspiracy theories...

I bought 16 Black PLA Basic refills for £10each, but havent printed much black since, yet before I was hammering through the stuff, should probably print some black stuff just to burn through some of it as its taking up too much space

Not sure if this is the right thread but don't really want to start a new one. I have a Bambu P1S with AMS, but the AMS seems to be quite stiff when retracting? It chunders away trying to retract and most times it does, but sometimes it fails on the last inch or so.

Any ideas what can be causing it or how to fix it? I have ordered a couple of feeding funnels to test and see if that sorts it, but seems a bit much just for this.

I’ve the same set up. When retracting, my AMS always has a couple of inches still in the feeder in case it’s required by the print. When I pull it out to change the spool, there’s always some resistance. Just a wee bit - barely enough to notice. Does that sound different from what you’re experiencing?

Nah, it's always done that which is expect, but sometimes it's just a little bit too much left in, it red lights, errors out and I have to manually pull a little out and then it's good to go.
