Hi All,

Just thought I'd ask on here, but has anybody noticed a massive increase in fireworks going off recently?

I'm about 8 miles East of Manchester city centre in an elevated location, and I reckon I hear and see fireworks probably 5 nights a week - just heard a barrage going off in the direction of Middleton about 5 minutes ago, something I've never noticed before except around Nov. 5th or New Year etc.

Just wondered if it's something local to Greater Manchester or an issue happening everywhere.

I'm not a miser by any means and really like a decent display, but it gets tiresome when it's a random intermittent nuisance when you're trying to get some sleep.

It's thieves celebrating when they get away with a catalytic converter.

Haven't heard any round here for months.

Me neither, but I have heard them at times outside of Nov 5th and NYE.
I did have some small feux d’artifices on Juillet Quatorze on the kitchen balcony, but they weren’t too loud.
My rosbifs neighbours have grown to expect it.

I can confirm there were fireworks around here (Middleton) around 11:45pm. Its definitely a common occurrence and seems to be for no apparent reason.

There's definitely been an increase in fireworks over the past few years. I quite often hear a few random ones going off and just presume it's kids messing around.

I think with the rise of fireworks being used for various non-Christian religious festivals, they are available all year round in a lot of places and I'm sure the kids find ways of getting them.

Someone had loads going off here the other night, went on for a good 30 mins and they must have cost a pretty penny as they were proper full-on fireworks like you see at big displays.

Happens a lot round my way and I don't even live in the scummy north. :p

edit: maybe I don't mean a lot when reading the first post again. It's nothing like 5 times a week. Can be a few a times a week and sometimes none for a few weeks.

I'm in South Manchester and hear them going off regularly. There's quite a few different religions around here, so would guess celebrating various religious events.

In fact, someone was setting a load off yesterday afternoon in broad daylight.

Last time I regularly heard them go off was right after England scored goals in the euro tournament.

One of my two dogs is terrified of them though, so it just becomes annoying for me.

Thought it was quite common to set of fireworks for birthdays, weddings, big anniversaries etc?

I often set one off to cover a loud fart, inconvenient if in the car though :) but yeah often hear them near mine, probably just peoples birthdays etc. I like the drug delivery idea, what would be next smoke signals
