Studies show that if a cat falls off the seventh floor of a building it has about 30% less chance of surviving than a cat that falls off the twentieth floor. It supposedly takes about eight floors for the cat to realise what is occurring, relax and correct itself.

I can't believe that one.

The pacific ocean is a thin layer sitting on the Earth's crust - the moon is an enormous solid ball of rock. Now, if you'd said they have the same surface area, I might believe you.

Moons volume = 21 958 000 000 Km3

what i worked out is pacific oceans volume = 710 000 000 Km3

the apparent volume of all water on the earth = 1 386 000 000 km3

i cant help imagining some dudes throwing cats out of windows, picking up the radio and saying "is it alive"

Surely that can't be true, wouldn't they freeze in the cold dead vacuum?

Here's a counter-fact:

Contrary to popular opinion, outer space isn't cold at all, and in fact ranges from thousands to millions of kelvin in temperature. Of course, temperature has little meaning in this context because of the incredibly low density of the interplanetary/interstellar/intergalactic media.

If you were actually floating in a vacuum, the only way of losing heat would be via radiation, which is very slow.

:)

The reason it would "feel" cold if you were exposed to vacuum would be because all the gases inside you would be expanding, and thus cooling. Expanding gases would also have other painful effects. :p

Canadian soldier, Corporal Rob Furlong holds the record for the longest range confirmed kill in combat at 2,430 meters ( over 1.5 miles ), using a McMillan Tac50 .50 rifle in Afghanistan in 2002.

This was previously held by Carlos Hathcock, who had a confirmed kill in Vietnam in 1967 at 2,300m using a Browning scope-mounted machine gun.

I always find that amazing, when considering the wind, atmosphere and probably earth curvature as well as time and movement it becomes even more so.

The very first bomb dropped by the Allies on Berlin during World War II killed the only elephant in the Berlin Zoo.
