Well it would seem that just talking about it has jinxed it, had a call from the dealer and they can't sell the car as it needs £4500 worth of work so will be off to the auctions. Look's like outside of servicing it's been maintained on the cheap so lots of non standard parts and all four wheels need replacing :(

The hunt has made me realise just how good my GS450h is for what I need from a car and frankly after 3 weeks of dealing with the motor trade which for the most part has been a distinctly frustrating and in some cases unpleasant experience I'm going to wait for 6 months and then take another look.

Sounds like you got off lightly rather than it being a bad thing? The car has been poorly looked after and the last thing you would want is to buy a car that has been mistreated. What was it?

Perhaps he wishes that dealers would prepare a car for sale BEFORE trying to sell it to somebody?

It's obvious with a 15 minute checkover whether a car is a total shed which needs 4 new wheels or not - don't put these things up for sale until you are reasonably sure they are not munters!

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag XJ in a rather fetching dark blue.

LS460?

I miss my Lexus so badly and dealing with the dealer network :(

Everything just worked, it was honestly that simple.

Love dealing with Lexus dealers but nothing in their range at the moment that works in my price range

Just frustrating, I have neither the time nor the patience to deal with multiple car dealers who seem to have little interest in what I'd consider to be basic customer service so I was very happy when I found a car what I liked, in my price range with a dealer who understood the concept of returning a phone call.

Most of the dealer put the cars up for sale before they even get them into stock :(

Oh yh agreed of course but was rather making the point that I wouldn't get too downbeat about it!

Edit: Yh I've seen quite a few bmw's before on AUC that have gone up for sale with cars 'due soon'

It's a total waste of everyone's time - you can't view it, you can't collect it, they are loathe to negotiate as they don't know if it's minty fresh or needs work, it's just annoying. I came across it a few times whilst buying. Particularly annoying when you are perhaps negotiating on several cars at once and you let the others go.

My father in law fell out with a dealer previously whilst negotiating on a new X5 because they refused to let him complete a purchase - he'd initially wanted to part exchange his old X5 but then decided to sell it privately and pay cash. He was told they wouldn't accept this as they'd already sold his car that he still owned.

Well he changed the terms of the deal...
