Hello, firstly if this is wrong section please can someone help me move it.

I have built my own pc and has been running fine for nearly a year about 2 days ago its started tripping by this i mean it randomly restarts by itself no blue screen therefore no mini dump. at first i thought this was a software issue so i system restored, then i tried reformat then i tried memtest (which i did each individual stick and all fine), i had a error before which was serge protection activated so i got a brand new power supply from overclockers and quite recxently had my GPU tested which was fine also. i just don't know what it is. I don't think its heat because max core temp is 50 and gpu is the same under medium load (idle cpu = 40, GPU = 37, it is 33 degrees here). any advice would be deeply appreciated. also it restarts when it wants really sometimes when im just watching a film or when im running a game, maybe 5 min maybe an hour. I also error tested my hard drives which were fine. i have searched through so many forum threads which have this problem but there solutions have not worked. one final thing to add in my computer logs it says kernal power 41, i would also like to add yesterday the electricity of my house just restarted without a trip on the fuse board so im just wondering if this has fried my power supply again. the computer does work as im using it now its just when i play a game it will restart so maybe under load it has this issue.

well that's what i thought so i rung up overclockers and they said reset the overclock which i did by removing the motherboard battery but it still happened.

reset the overclock as in what they overclocked it to 4.6?

you could save that profile in another slot just to make sure you dont lose it then try load defaults etc so it runs at stock, if it still resets on you then you know its for sure not the overclock

ruling stuff out is the way to go

so it still restarts when not overclocked at all...
my next thing id try is drivers and that ssd, its a sandforce one right?

i guess the quickest way to find out for sure if its the ssd is to make a partition on your 500gb drive and put windows on that, totally disconnect the ssd

kernal power 41 is kind of a generic error just basically saying windows shutdown unexpectedly ><

ok bro i'll make the partition now it shouldnt take that long but il post back and see what happens, thx for all the help so far much appreciated.

im not a bro but ur welcome^^
ye its a bit of messing about but its only way to rule it out for sure, make sure to totally unplug the ssd

and thats with defaults loaded? ooo wth
i dont know how accurate them readings are

id set it all on defaults/auto and keep trying to rule out what you can, im guessing you dont have spare parts laying about to swap

no that's with the overclocked profile loaded, yea i dont think they are very accurate because they change so quickly and sometimes are normal other times are in the red. i do have spare parts they wont work with this system because compatibility is different they are old. well thats the thing what is my next step because ive ruled everything out the last thing is the partition really?

yeh i think its worth a try, ive heard of restarts just like you describe because of sandforce ssd

infact if you put kernal power 41 into google half the problems pops up sandforce :p
not hating on them, use a agility3 with zero problems

ok fair enough its worth a try right, i''l reboot on the 500gb hard drive and unplug the ssd and play some games to test it out and report back to see what happens

This was happening to me.
Weirdly, turned out to be the momentary switch for power on that was sticking in when I turned the PC on, then at random intervals would release itself (could be 1 minute or 3 hours) putting my PC into the shutdown process.

ok here's a update, i went to do a partition and it restarted 5 times after getting to the windows screen every time so in the end i turned it off. when i came back and turned it on it said overclock failed reload profile. so i reloaded the profile and it was fine for about an hour until just now. im not 100% but seems to restart under load or about 65 degree on the processor so im not sure its anything to do with boot device i think the error is to do with power because before hand i set my cpu voltage to 1.320 but once i reloaded the profile it sets it to 1.365 so its either not getting enough power or something so it just cuts out. and jeckulz my issue is not the same as mine dosen't restart or shut down it basically just dies instantly.

um thought we agreed to run it at stock while u test without ssd, and no voltage adjusting

if you dont test one thing at a time youll never know what it is
