I'm going to get straight to the point :).

We just moved house recently. The move went well etc, etc. I set up my rig and looked inside, it was a bit dirty so in the new frame of mind after the move i went sinde and cleaned it of the little dust what was there. I then proceed to turn my pc on after setting it up. I get a message like to format, so i was like god i hit something. It then says go to bios or reset, i check bios everything is as it should. I reboot, same message comes up so i reset, which i then think wiped the bios to standard. Anyway, so now this i try format my pc, i had 3 hard drives two dualled into 1 and 1 for my os. I try formatting my os drive to no avail, it was showing up as not meeting the criteria for a format. So after much messing about i remove my two storage hdd's, then retry a format. It works, but when i plug them in and restart it won't let me into windows unless they aren't plugged in. Once windows is up i can plug them in and they show up but they don't show up as having any space. They're just there with no options or any space on them.

Any help would be REALLY appreciated, regards, R3dge

My rig is as follows:

Intel Core i7 940
EVGA GeForce GTX 295
Asus Rampage II Extreme Intel X58
Corsair TX 750W
Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card
x 2 - Samsung SpinPoint F1 500GB
Samsung SpinPoint S 80GB
G.Skill 6GB DDR3

Have you checked the boot priority of the drives - is the drive with windows on listed at the first bootable device? (the cmos battery may be running out so the BIOS may have forgotten the bootable order when you unplugged it to move - and you may have forgotten to check the priority when you reset the BIOS?).)

If it's not listed as the first that would explain why it deosn't boot up with the other drives attached - plus it should sort your other drive problems out when they boot up with the OS rather than being attached after the OS has loaded.

yeah, i changed it to priority and as secondary. Still nothing. I had a friend round and he was as confused as me.

This is what my computer looks like:

It's odd because it really does sound like the boot priority in the BIOS is mixed up. You could try the following just in case your BIOS is playing up:

I would attach all the drives - double check that you have them in the correct mobo SATA ports (easy mistake to make). Then switch on and hit delete as in starts to boot to get into the BIOS.

Then just check the 'Hard Disk Boot Priority' and then manually change the prioriy to the correct order - even if it means re-setting the same settings - and then save and exit. (As it could be that your mobo BIOS is playing silly buggers)

Good luck - let me know how you get on.

There is only 3 options to choose from so it's not hard to mix it. There is: Floppy, cd drive and then my hdd. They are the choices, i moved them round and then back. I haven't changed any cables round since i got my pc. I bought it from here, all custom built and haven't changed anything inside. I literally opened the case to clean the fans. I am too scared to mess with the equipment inside my rig as it cost me a pretty penny and my experience with building is limited.

NO, that's the Boot Priority of the drives - i'm talking about the 'Hard Disk Boot Priority', different thing.

The 'Hard Disk Boot Priority' orders the priority in which just your HDDs will be accessed. Make sure your OS HDD is listed as the first - you should have 3 HDD's to choose from.

EDIT: let me know how you get on.

tried to no avail. If i reboot my rig now it takes me to a screen saying the name of my mono and some options. But soon as i take the hdd's out it boots up fine :/.

Which drive has the OS on it the 80 gig or one of the 500gig? (are the 2 500 gigs RAID 0?)

yeah they're identical, when i had it on before this problem when i went into my computer it only showed as two drives.

Thi sounds like something still isn't set correctly in your BIOS - maybe that RAID isn't enabled... I'm downloading your manual...

I agree with the bios, i have reset it by accident and i am not too familiar with bio's to get my self out of this mess. THANKS for your helping me. I really do appreciate it.

The system is trying to boot from the SATA drives first when they're connected which is what's causing the problem. My problem is is that i'm unfamiliar with your mobo - and i'm guessing your back up is in RAID 1 (maybe 0) - so i'm looking through the BIOS settings...

So they're just competing with each other to be the primary boot? Why is it they show up in my computer with no space on them?

In the BIOS go to the MAIN tab.

Select the 'Configure SATA As'

And then select RAID 0 or RAID 1 (depending on what your drives are using.)

Make sure you're absolutely sure which RAID you are using though!

EDIT: Save and exit then...
