Chaps.

I have a spanking new rig with a 8800GT and DELL E248WFP 24" screen.
The rig is fine but last night I encountered the screen blacking out for a short period before coming back. The 8800GT has plenty of power and is connected via DVI to the DELL E248WFP.

The case has loads of fans whiring away lovely and I dont think thats the problem but I am open to the possibility.

Anyone heard of this problem.

I have not had many problems over the years but what would be the likely cause in your experience?

MHZ to high on screen rez?
Overheat?
Faulty Screen?
Faulty Card?
Card getting some sort of inteference?

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi people,
some more information that I am hoping will help.
I get very small little blue dots in the dark back grounds. But this appers only when I am playing games. However, once it appears in a game it appears all over the screen even when the game is played windowed. This implies to me that the graphics card has a problem. Anyone else heard of anything similar?

Use nvidia control panel to monitor GPU settings and tell us the temperature at the time these blue dots appear.

Also, download 'rivatuner' and set the GPU fan speed to 60%. it's only 29% at stock and as such the card can overheat.

Ok, I ran Rivatuner and set the speed to 60% and it made no difference after about 5 minutes. Temp using nTune from nvidia says 49c constant at the windows desktop with little blue dots appearing.
They appear 3 minutes after windows starts up and remain there after...
Any other thoughts people?

I have wacked up the RivaTuner settings to 80% duty cycle and temp has dropped to 47c and no blue dots at the moment.
Assuming this continues (fingers crossed) does 80% sound overkill? Other threads read like 60% should be enough. Should I be worried?

I had a problem similar with my last monitor, monitor seemed like it was loosing all picture, going to black, then coming back on a few seconds later... was sporadic and not predictable. Turned out to be the connection on the back of the monitor was messed up, temporarily fixed it by using another cable that has better fasteners to screw into the vga port.

RMA the GPU?

I assume the machine was custom built? The graphics card is obviously artifacting if you're getting consistant marks on your monitor. I'd suggest getting it replaced. If it was built or you got it from a prebuilt manufacturer, get them to send someone out to take a look at it.

Have not had any blackouts since adjusting speed of fan and temp hit around 60c when running Crysis which I did not think was bad. No blue dots to speak off and all was stable after leaving the machine on for 6 hours merrily running X3.
I therefore draw the conclusion that it must be GPU heat and will do some more testing.
I have since read other posts and it looks like EVGA have released a flash for the bios which adjust fan speed.
I spoke to OC and they have said that the card is very new and would need a few tweeks here and there. I will keep an eye on EVGA website and may drop them an e-mail but looks like nTune from Nvidia has resolved so far.
Thanks for input all.

Blue dots came back :(
Even adjusted the speed of the fan to 100% and still the blue dots came back.
OC confirmed that it probably was the card faulty and have agreed to swap it out.
Given the state of the post over Xmas I decided to buy the 8800GTS and get this sent out and then send back my 8800GT for a refund which they are happy with.
Hopefully I may receive it tomorrow.

So, my advise to people who have 8800 cards and experience blue dots or similar underload. Just speak to OC and get the Returns process started. Its a shame but something that can be resolved.

Right,
Need input people.
I have the 8800GTS and all was well until I received blue dots on this card also!.
First thoughts, must be something else as surely I could not have had two seperate cards that are faulty.
So I downloaded Speedfan with the idea of checking CPU temps...
Which are as follows when I get the blue dots:
temperaure.jpg

Does not look anything to suggest overheat of CPU so what the hell is it?!?

Could it possibly be a faulty card AGAIN?
If i come out of playing COD4 or Crysis or X3 the blue dots disapear within a minute or so which suggest heat to me....

HELP!

Reinstall DirectX, Remove Drivers, get rid of them completely with drivercleaner, Reinstall them again, try again. It's highly unlikely you have two faulty cards. Which driver version are you using?
