Range Rover Evoque

id just want it to be a bit more "unique", esp considering the car is going to be making such a statement in terms of fashion, nothing before has even looked close to it.

its good though when cars come out that make a small revolution like that, so definately a thumbs up to LR from me. makes a change that it was one of "our" car manufacturers doing it!

(Stupid question warning)

I take it you work for JLR? and if memory serves the VR centre is at the Gaydon site?

If you don't mind me asking which area do you work in? I'm not that clued up on all of the areas yet but will start trying to learn what's what soon.

Sort of I'm a contractor working at JLR and yes VR is at the Gaydon site.

I work in Advanced Product Creation so basicaly prove out the feasibility/cost of cars before they are signed off to go to production. I get to design pretty much any part of the car and have a lot to do with new technology, concepts and clay models and also prototype stuff. Its great :D

From http://www.just-auto.com

Tata Motors-owned Land Rover has taken 6,500 orders for its new Evoque which is due to reach showrooms in September.

Brand director John Edwards added that the company also has 100,000 "hot prospects" for the baby Range Rover.

Edwards said: "The Evoque is a very important model for us because it is going to attract a whole new set of customers to the brand."

He also believes the Evoque will help Land Rover hit record sales this year. "This car is the first step in the next stage of Land Rover's development," he said.

"Our vision is to be the gold standard in the SUV market, the benchmark brand."

Last year Land Rover grew its sales by 26% over 2009 to 180,000 vehicles. Edwards expects this pace of growth to continue, particularly in the emerging markets of Brazil, China, India and Russia.

He added that the company has "very significant" growth plans and Jaguar Land Rover is taking on an additional 1,000 engineers and designers at its headquarters at Gaydon near Birmingham.

A further 1,500 jobs are being created at the Halewood factory on Merseyside where the Evoque will be assembled.

Looking good. :)

Sounds it :D will have to try and sneak into have a peak at some of the design stuff should I get a chance.

Still waiting to hear whether I will be based at Gaydon or Whitley. I know they are looking to shift a few things between the two sites so that may be the deciding factor. I'm sure they have a nice basement somewhere for the IT grads :p

How many SUVs are actually used as a UTILITY vehicle though?

How many supercars are driven on tracks only? Seems that this kind of thinking is pretty outmoded.

An SUV is just another niche nowadays, along with all the rest. Another purchasing preference and largely absolutely nothing to do with its ancestors many years ago.

I just can't get excited about Chelsea tractors :(

Ill let the board know before they do something silly like start making the things.

The tractors arent so bad. Its the Chelsa Combine harvesters like the FORD FOCUS that are the real road hogs. :p

Let me enlighten you all to the true benefit of a 4x4, your on the same level at the people in McDonalds drive thru!

Nothing worse than looking up the nose of some spotty scrote.

All I said is that I dislike SUVs that are not used as utility vehicles :(

It's like buying a supercar and then driving it around at 5mph everywhere

How does this fair to a RR sport? My boss has a 59 plate diesel RR sport and likes the look of this...he had an X5 before the RR so would this be a step down in terms of comfort etc?

Its nothing like an RR Sport tbh. Its smaller than a freelander for a kick off. Im sure the interior will be lovely etc, but the engines arent exactly RR norm. Tell him its like his RR sport which has been shrunk in the wash and less likely for drug dealers to be driving it :D
