Range Rover Evoque

How does this fair to a RR sport? My boss has a 59 plate diesel RR sport and likes the look of this...he had an X5 before the RR so would this be a step down in terms of comfort etc?

The MR dampers should make it ride REALLY well. The biggest change will be the size/space - there's a lot less of it

Its nothing like an RR Sport tbh. Its smaller than a freelander for a kick off. Im sure the interior will be lovely etc, but the engines arent exactly RR norm. Tell him its like his RR sport which has been shrunk in the wash and less likely for drug dealers to be driving it :D

Smaller than a freelander :| what is it like a nissan duke or something?

He likes the sort of tonka toy look of the RR sport that's why he likes it but his wife drives it a lot and think it's a bit big.

Theres actually more head room in the back of the 5 door than than the RRS.

Its only the rear overhand thats shorter, the underfloor has been packaged much better such that it retains command drive, keeps good head room and has more ground clearance than FR2.

Quoted trunk volume is also 420 L.

I had the pleasure of driving one of the Evaluation Units a couple of weeks ago. Coupe 2.2 Diesel specced up with the rear seat entertainment, dual view screen, panaromic roof and the magneride suspension.

Brushed ally is proper metal - including the detail around the vents.

Good image to show its size - parked like that to ensure I didnt pick up any dings!

Onto the interior stuff - and no Posh Spice did not design it.:p

Cruise is the typical 30mph+ to activate but I was suprised to see this graph pop up for 5seconds or so.

Then if your in the back you can use this remote control to manage what you want to watch or listen to through the Meridian premium 825W sound system or the Whitefire wireless headphones.

Definately a Range Rover style to the console and controls, the dash and doorcards are fully leather covered which gives the premium feel required for the market target and its price point. The engine was also equipped with start stop which was pretty slick with the manual box.

That trunk load space, decent size with a much lower load floor height than Freelander and some decent load restraint runners!

That view, the letterbox :o Its not as bad as the picture suggests as there is minimal body overhang from the glass surfaces unlike an XJ which I found far more difficult to work out where you are, particularly as the rear view camera is too low on that car. On the Evoque the camera does superb job for rear visibility anyway.

Rear head room was VERY impressive thanks to that roof. As a 6 foot block who pretty much sits as a 95% percentile adult in torso height my head was a good few inches from the glass. Its a little cosy as the waistline is so high but thats part of why it looks like it should be cramped as everyone can see the side glass is narrow - plenty of room was my verdict anyway and the 5 dr gains useful doors AND 30mm roof height.

I encountered my first Evoque on the roads today (seen plenty at a few storage compounds around the country) I can't honestly say I was that impressed tbh.

Its pre-launch pictures interested me far more than the car in the flesh alas.

Not that I care tbh, I am not nor would ever be, in the market for one.
