[Rant] Seriously, getting fed up with Nationwide trying to block my card.

Nationwide are consistently blocking every transaction I make online.

I've had it mapped to my Google wallet for a couple of years with no issue and now every time I try and buy something BAM blocked. Oh apparently it's an unusual transaction.

I go abroad and BAM blocked.

I go abroad and this time have the sense to let them know in advance. BAM blocked.

I've complained but 'it's an advanced computerised system, they have no control'.

Now I try and buy the Humble Indie Bundle online and guess what? So I phone them up and they ask me for my name, address and DOB for security and apparently I failed at least two security questions so they've blocked my card until I can speak to someone who has the training to ask more security questions than this. They work 9 - 5.

Cheers.

by the sound of things you arent getting ANY foreign transactions, let alone free ones

:D true! Just want a card that lets me buy stuff in dollars (like the Humble Bundle, t-shirts from Threadless etc) without being hit by fees. Plus must be a Visa or Mastercard.

I normally use the Amex (for cashback) unless the retailer doesn't accept it given their crazy merchant fees.

I'm with Nationwide and have only encountered this problem once. I was trying to buy a coat. Rung them up, they said it shouldn't be blocked as no odd activity was being flagged up. Worked after and I could purchase.

I'm always buying stuff online or in different cities, no problem.

It is a debit card though, maybe they are more protective of their credit cards.

Halifax do the same with me.

No matter how many times I've tried to buy things through just-eat or Steam, they always block my transactions and give me an automated call the next day. I have to use my Nat-West credit card instead. I can understand if they were small niche markets, but both are fairly large companies.

I wouldn't even consider using my debit card abroad. Twice I informed them where I was going, and twice I was unable to pay for the hotel. Pretty crappy really.

HSBC have never charged me for transactions like those.

I've been with HSBC since I opened my account, (Not sure if there any good). I never get any issues, sometimes I have to input some special security password like on OcUK but that is about it.

Lloyds always do this to me. I've even rang them up before and had a go at them for it but it still gets blocked like clockwork every few months.

-_-

I travel frequently, purchase from foreign sites in other currencies and generally do most of the things you mention. Never had a problem with HSBC :)
I say move bank.

I've had it a couple of times with Lloyds TSB. Whilst I appreciate they are trying to prevent fraud from happening on my card it can be bloody annoying and I can't imagine how frustrating it'd be if it happened as often as it seems to for the OP.

I've been with HSBC 4 years and I've been blocked at least 6 times.

I travel around the country a lot with work and it's always getting blocked.
