I currently have 3 x SATA drives in my machine totaling 1.32 TB and I was thinking of investing in a 36 GB Raptor for my Windows and Programs installation. Will this be a significant performance boost to the system, or should I just save the money and stick with what I have at the moment?

Gee do you need all that storage at any given time on PC ?.

Obv a Raptor will be faster but not if you raid them other drives in 2 or 3 drive set up of Raid0.

I suppose it really depends how recent the 3 SATAs are, if they are Seagate 7200.10s or WD AAKSs, I would just save your money, as these 7200rpm HDDs are not far off Raptor (16MB cache) HDD (Average read) performance.

In saying that, you will see your programs loading quicker from the 36GB Raptor in comparison to the 7200.10s or AAKSs. :)

I recently added a 150g Raptor to my 500g SATA Hitatchi & used it for boot. I noticed a considerable decrease in boot time yet wonder how much of that is due to a rebuild.

It's also a lot quieter than I expected, much quieter....

Will 36gb be enough for Windows and your program files ??

Regards

Yeah, 36GB will be fine, because I currently use 40GB for all that, and it includes all my documents etc... so I should have approximately 10GB after everything is installed :)

Don't bother IMO.

I swapped a fairly new Samsung for a Raptor recently and any difference was barely noticable - aside from the fact that the Raptor sounded like someone bashing a tin roof with a stick. I'm not saying that all Raptors are noisy but I doubt that the noticable speed difference (if any) is worth the outlay.

Unless you have money to burn (and maybe more for a new PSU), then I wouldn't bother.
