Im addicted to making my pc better and want my games and loading in general to be a lot faster, specialy game loading.

i cant make my mind up what i want to get, either 2 rap 36gb's or the 1 150gb, then get another 150 later on in the year. would i see a massive improvement with the 2 36gbs in raid 0 from what i have now, which is 2 80gb sata's in raid0, thanx

all il have on it is my os and games, as i keep my media on another hdd

The 150gb raptors are much faster then a 36gb raptor...(Plus 36GB of space is just about nothing these days,that will be full in no time..)

I brought a 150gb raptor myself about a 1 year ago and i say it's been one the best upgrades i have ever done to my PC...

The 7200.10's arn't that far behind the Raptors.

They are actually faster at burst and conecutive reads due to the massive platter sizes and the vertical recording.

The Raptors are only really faster at seektime and random reads due to the faster motor.

Scroll down to page 10 and get past all the meaningless 'virtual' performance benchmarks, and look at actual Game loading times, WinRAR, etc. etc. tests then RAID 7200.10's is very close (and actually beats in some) Raptor 150's in every test.

anyway, i would just want to do 2 x 15k rpm Cheetah 15k.4. I've got a 146gb right now, but cant seem to find a good deal on another 146gb. So, maybe get 2 x 74gb instead and sell off the 146gb.

can also try the WD5000AAKS. its single drive performance is better than a single 7200.10. So, the WD5000AAKS on Raid 0 might perform better.
 
could have sworn in most review i'd seen the 16mb cache 74gb raptor is faster than the 150gb

been running 2x 74's for years now, could never turn back :)

the manufacturer is called 'silent star' or 'silentstar', its a dual hard drive watercooling block, fits in 2x cd drive bays

its really heavy though, a few kg's before the raptors are in it, but it has noise insulation around the inside of it too :)
 
Has anyone even thought of the Samsung Spinpoints? Quiet and very fast! 20% faster than the hitatchi's in real world tests! This is down to them having less platters with larger capacity on each platter! Fast and quiet!

Do you have any links to back that up? I can only find benchmarks for the current 250Gb drives and the results are nothing special really.
