Raspberry Pi 5 Announced!

Hmmmm, not sure why but my Pi keeps falling off of the network, something is a foot...

Will do a reinstall on it and see what it does when its fresh..

Do, for those on here using PiHole, with VPN, which VPN server are you using?
The PiHole guys are now saying OpenVPN isn't up to the job and recommend Wireguard instead..

Anyone here used either, and have any input?
100% use WireGuard

Use the pivpn installer, https://www.pivpn.io/

If you've already got PiHole installed and a static IP, then pivpn will route your VPN DNS to your pihole, so you get adblocking on the go :) The Android client is awesome and tiny. You set it up via QR code.

edit, GSV, that takes me back, used to play CS with Jase and the others.

I've been having stability issues so did a reimage last night, if there is a proper Pi-VPN image I'll redo it tonight using that, cheers..

Ha yeah, GSV was borne of OCUK back in the day when they had CS servers running, Jase started it, invited one other person, then someone else tagged up thinking it was a pee take, one thought the other had invited the new guy and so the clan was born, some of us are still around, we still have our forums but things have quietened down a bit since we all got old and Jase died and drifted apart...

Get a decent SD card, this is the main cause of instability. The new official raspberry pi ones are awesome. Or SanDisk endurance. I use the stock lite 64bit image from the pi website.

No need for desktop for this use

I got the starter pack, so it came with the official card.
I'm using an NVME drive though, it still running at the mo and haven't crapped itself but will leave it for a while to see if it does..

I bought mine for Klipper related shenanigans, then bought a Pad7, so the Pi was sat doing nothing, once I know why its not stable, and fix it, if a reinstall hasn't, then I'll be running PiHole on it and PiVPN, maybe some other network monitoring/control sort of stuff, there will be no media related stuff as I have a Plex server that deals with all of that.

I haven't owned a RPi since the 2 I think and I'm thinking of getting a new one to plug into the TV as a console. I guess just getting the RPi 5, a case, an HDMI cable and a power supply would be everything I need? Obviously I'll need a keyboard and (possibly) a mouse to set it up but after that can I just a controller?

I'm more than happy with my 8Gb version for now, its only running Pihole and VPN..

Thoguht though, on a 16gb version could you not create a RAM disk and then run the OS and whatever from that, not that you would need the speed if you're running from nvme drive like I am, but for some could be useful, or just something to try and tinker with, because 'reasons'..

Yeah if you setup something like Retropie then a controller should suffice ones its all setup.
Some nice Retro Gaming cases available; theres a nice looking N64 one now!
