Thinking about buying a PC since exclusively being a Mac user for a number of years. I had a 6000 3dmark06 score when i built PCs which was pretty uber back in the day! :D

Just wondered if it was a good time to buy with Ivy-Bridge just around the corner? I assume some motherboards are going to be compatible when they're out?

I've put together a little rough build of components that i may want but just wondering whether they are suitable with eachother and will last for the forseable future with new architectures coming out.

Is there components that would be better suited to my build? Am i missing something out? I have keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, sound card.

The computer is mainly going to be used for photo work with some gaming thrown into the mix.

Thanks!

Thats all compatible, but two things,

1) dont need the paste, the Kuhler920 comes pre-applied with good Silver paste.
2) the PSU is poor, this is better/modular and the same price - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1088

Excellent! Thanks!

Always used my own paste before and didn't realise the cooler would come with good paste!

Regarding the PSU, i really had no idea what PSUs are good. Can't remember what PSU i used to use, was a modular one with braided cables. UK based but think they went bust after their PSUs used to explode!

What wattage PSU would i be best getting? Is 650w overkill?

650w is good for a pair of 6950 in Crossfire.

Cool. We'll see what the electric bill will be like after this build then may do Crossfire! :p

Any comments on the motherboard? Future proof for Ivy-Bridge. Any better boards available for roughly the same price?

Hiper 580 watter. Big thread about these on here a while ago.

I'm getting the PSU Stulid suggested tomorrow for my new build. Just hope it doesn't turn out to be a dud otherwise I'll be going back to Corsair.

Yeah! Was Hiper! I loved that thing when i had it. Was totally different to anything out there before. Only used mine for under a year before selling.

Regarding the mobo, I don't mind spending in upwards of £200 if the board is worth it in terms of features!

Looking at the prices everything seems to be from OcUK.

There's a least a couple of components which are on Black Friday special offers.

I believe they go back up in price tomorrow morning.

The components on This Week Only go back up in price Wednesday morning.

Also the case is out of stock which will delay the order.

It's not so much about price at this moment in time as it is about the components picked. The price is there just as a rough estimate. :)
