Razer Onza

Sounds like a quality control issue there then as the stick mechanisms should be identical L/R. So much for not having issues such as SlowTurn on MS pads.

How are the triggers? A 'Pro' pad should have a hair trigger imo instead of the slack on MS pads of a millimetre\40 thou or so.

I haven't had a chance to try another Onza controller so the problems I'm experiencing may be limited to this one. It is strange that the left stick has this problem and the right stick doesn't. Your mileage may vary.

The triggers activate much earlier than the Microsoft controllers, which is both a good thing and bad thing I've found. I play mostly Black Ops these days and having the trigger activate early on means I'm quicker on the draw than before with automatic weapons.

However, on semi-auto rifles/pistols, I found out that I never release the trigger entirely. With the MS controller, I never let the trigger reset all the way back up after a pull, and that habit carried over to the Onza. The problem is that since I don't release the trigger all the way, it never reactivates on the next pull, if that makes sense. So I find myself putting one shot down range and then pulling the trigger over and over after that with nothing happening.

That is an improvement then. If you've managed to adapt to the MS pad I'm sure you'll be able to do it on this.

Could do with Razer making a PS3 pad to be fair, bigger sized for bigger hands. Anyone know if they have any plans?

just recieved mine today surprisingly..

heres some crap photography:

I had a bash on one at the gadget show.

I found the buttons to be pretty unsatisfying to press. It sorta feels like what happens on a normal 360 pad when the buttons get a bit sticky.

The sticks were not as great as I expected either.

Mine is currently at Gatwick Airport. I ordered direct from Razer Store as they opened the Pre-Order a couple of days ago.

I used code: RZEUH1GHF1V3 - 5 Euro discount. Hopefully with Euro to GBP conversion rates it will cost me £46, which IIRC was the same price as ShopTo who I have now cancelled my pre-order with.

Can't Wait :d

P.S Does anyone know which software is being used to test the sensitivity AND deadzones shown in this video please?

You only get to check the left stick. Frankly I would want the Onza to give perfect scores without changing the internal sensitivity.

true, but it's like with TV's which are never calibrated out of the box. You need to get them ISF calibrated to get reference colours.

More of a work around for suffering the same manufacturing variances as Microsoft by the sounds of it. It would be smart if it recalibrated that one direction 87 to 100, but sounds like it's just buffing the lot. You can buy Microsoft pads that are fine as long as you persevere. Between me and a mate its been 50% chance.

Just a quick update regarding the stick press issue. My coworker just received his Onza through the mail and the sticks don't have this issue at all. Looks like it was just mine. I'll be returning mine, but it looks like it'll be a few weeks before I can get a replacement.

Received mine today and like with any controller it will take some time to getting used too.

As I normally play FPS games I can only base my first impressions on that. Using the tactical button layout on COD:

Good

A,B,X,Y buttons are fantastic

D-Pad buttons are soft to press and feel great.

Tension adjusters work very well.

Re-mapping does what it is supposed to do.

I like the triggers, I use the M14 semi-auto rifle and there is a shorter throw to click and thus fire the weapon.

Bad

There is too much travel on the Right Stick to go prone. I think this is due to the raised thumb stick similar to FPS Freaks. When I gently press on the right stick, it feels like their is a click but it is not. It is just some resistance and I have to press harder, therefore making the stick travel further down until I get a click to go prone.

There were deadzones. (Using the extreme sensitivity mod solved it)

The Multi Function and bumper buttons are too close together in order to use them properly.

The Multi Function and bumper buttons are not as good as the A,B,X,Y buttons. There is too much travel in order to get a click thus performing any action is slow and cumbersome.

The start and select buttons are in a bad position, (I never thought that would bother me until now)

Cheers for the review, sounds a bit 50/50 there then. It's hard to understand the logic behind moving back and start.

Definitely 50/50 but at the heavy price tag is it a good buy? In my opinion nope since the new transforming D-Pad controller costs £30 with a play and charge kit.

I've just received mine so looking forward to putting it through it's paces tonight. Came in good time as I'm going to social 360 LAN this sat so will get to see how it perform in a light-heart but competitive environment :D

I got my Onza Tournament Edition on Thursday and when I recieved it I wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I've been using it a lot today and after adjusting the sensitivity of the thumbsticks a bit to get it right for me I'm now very happy with it.

So far I've only played FPS games with it (which is what I bought it for really) and I've found it accuarate and responsive. I like the feel of the buttons and having the x,y,a,b backlit is quite nice - I also prefer the digital feel of them with a nice click.

When I tightened the Thumbsticks (for trial) I found them much harder to press, however as I have it setup at the moment there are no problems.

Probably the only thing I don't like is the Xbox Button, it looks a bit cheap.
