RBS 6 Nations 2012

It's not considered a knock on, but I've got no idea why. The Knock on rules are to prevent forward passing so I presume it's because you couldn't possibly charge down a kick and hope to control the ball in any meaningful way therefore it shouldn't give you any advantage.

That's fair enough, I just assumed that contact with the ground would have made that a knock-on, but you're right - it must be all about perceived advantage.

Because if there wasnt the charge down rule, a player could kick the ball directly at the opposition hoping to hit their arms or hands and forcing a knock on (and say you were trying to get the ball out of defence this would give you a penalty and better change to clear your lines so an easy way to get out of defence), which would be rubbish, so instead we have charge downs.

Good point, hadn't thought of that

Looking forward to todays Wales vs Scotland encounter, just hope Scotland don't play a kicking game again.

I don't think Wales will let them, I expect Wales to run everything and wear down the Scottish defence.

I really don't rate Hodgson, he's scored two ridiculous tries but slows the ball down so much, never does anything inventive, his kicking out of hand isn't good enough to make up for it and he doesn't even take penalties :/

He often takes Penalties at Saracens, Owen is so good though that there is little need to have anyone else kicking most of the time.

I think his two tries have done him more than enough to earn a place in the squad.

Greig Laidlaw just pulled the first penalty of the day wide, hopefully that's not a sign of things to come. Interesting in the statistics how much bigger the Welsh backs seemed to be on average.

It's been quite an exciting game so far and very close currently with no-one quite threatening the try line just yet although Wales have perhaps had slightly the better chances. Some of the defence from both sides has been absolutely crunching although it would be quite nice if just once when mentioning Richie Gray they didn't mention phrases like "man mountain" and "giant of a man".

Typically as soon as I say no-one has threatened the try line Scotland get close but stuffed it up, also typically. Bit unfortunate for Wales having George North going off but I'm hoping that Scotland can build on a decent performance in the first half.

Terrible start there and you can track it back to a missed catch on the kick off. A daft penalty to give away and a yellow card for De Luca - rubbish. I rather thought there was a knock-on before Jonathan Davies kicked on for the chase but unfortunately there hasn't been a replay to check that.

For the love of ...

It's difficult enough when you don't score tries but to get two men sent off and giving away penalties is just giving Wales an advantage they don't need. And there's the third try.
