I have 3 twin rotas, including a 107. I fancied more of a challenge to ordered a Nine Eagles Solo Pro, after reading above I'm very worried I won't be able to fly it at all.

The solo pro flies like the Blade mSR. It will be very responsive to stick inputs, so don't go banging the sticks. Other than that, it's self levelling given enough space. It needs more space to self level the faster you're going. In a living room it should level out in under a second as you'll be flying slowly.

If it's set up properly (ie, the swash plate is level) then gentle throttle, a dab of right on the cyclic to stop it drifting left, and it should sit almost where you put it without having to constantly correct it. You'll just need to adjust the throttle to keep a constant height.

You should be able to fly it in a living room as long as you fly it slowly (about as fast as your 107 can go). This will teach you the controls (proper heli controls) so they're second nature by the time you want to move on.

You could get a second hand DX6i and if you do not get on with the helicopters, sell it for virtually the same.
Surprised to see no mention of the Blade MCPX here.

Been looking up the little HB V2, It seems they love to burn the 4-1 out when you crash. They are like £30 to replace. But there is a "fuse mod" that helps a lot. (Running a 7.5amp fuse between it and the main motor and a 3amp fuse between it and the tail motor)

So much lingo to learn when on a forum. It will be 6 months before I can afford to spend the money so guess I have time to learn.

The 'fuse mod' is well worth doing on the honeybee. It was the first thing I did when I got mine. Only took 5mins and cost less than £1 to do.
It does save the 4in1 blowing if you crash and have the throttle left open but how many people keep on powering when they crash, the fuse mod does give you the saftey net though just incase.
Had my honeybee for over 12 months now, it's a great heli to learn on, only thing with these small helis is they don't like wind so only fly them outdoors on a calm day

i dont know about the HB v2 everyone seems to say get it as a first heli but i wonder if many of them have ever flown it , im seeing people who can fly 3d saying they went back to their HB v2 and still couldnt fly it very well which keeps putting me off

apprently the CB100 is a good indoor learner hlei but it costs a lot more than a vb2

I love a nice little chopper, nothing fancy, just one that runs on battery for more than 15 mins and doesn't reset it's gyro every landing

Problem I have is it will almost certainly be a bday present from someone as I've got alsorts of things to pay off this year. So don't want it to cost any more than £100 and I'm also not sure if I will just get bored after a week or two as I have a short attention span for things like this :/ so would like to give it a go but not break the bank at the same time.

there might be 8 on their but you can almost garuntee the final bid will be about 80 quid, may aswell buy one new without the reciever for 99 (most blade helis bind to them anyway right?)

then i'd heartly recommend heliguy atom, i spent about 2 hours flying heliguy atom last night. cost £40 but i paid extra for 3x blades, 3 x tail blades, 1 x flybar, 1 x tail boom and an extra battery. total was like £61.

i only crashed it once and broke off small pin at end of the blade. Took few mins to replaced with new one then off flying straight away.

heliguy atom will fly straight out of box without doing any major settings/tweaking. maybe few trim adjustments on tx will smooth out jumping/bumping/jerking flying.

question - how easy is it to fly heliguy atom? to be honest, i was a little surprised Atom is actually harder than i thought. Which making Atom a very good indoor trainer heli. The main reason i purchased Atom to improve my thumbs memories

i find Blade 120SR a lot easier to fly and zooming around living room than Atom due the size and heavier (bigger heli, easier to fly). But cost a lot more, a lot faster than Atom so more likely to have a nasty accident.

Thanks for that, quite reassuring. I saw a video where a guy made a trainer to help landing, might give that a go.

120sr pretty much hover themselfs acording to what ive read , unlike most other helis thats why you find it so easy , they are good for learning circles , figure 8's etc but it wont teach you how to hover which is why a lot of people dont suggest them as a first heli or at all.

Yes as far as I Know, pretty sure they'll bind to any TX. I know first hand they bind to the Msr and Mcpx. A friend even used to use his for his nitro cars too.

Yes, but the blade 120 SR costs about £120 RTF against less than £25 or so for a 107g.

Is there not something in between the two price wise, which is still quite easy (and suitable) to fly indoors, is fairly 'robust', and possibly suitable for outdoor flying as well in calm weather?

I know one option is the Blade mCX2, but this can also be a bit pricey, if you quickly deciide that helicopter flying is not for you!

i want a serious flier like a walkera v120d02s i would buy one right now but im not ordering from hongkong (i'd be happy hovering it and learning slow)

theres quite a few vids on youtube of them crashing , doing inverted flying with the blades scraping the floor etc and no damage at all, small enough to fly in the house and powerful enough to handle a bit of wind

i might just get a bee v2 to be going on with and hope buzzfly start selling the v120d02s at some point

you can fly anything outside in calm weather but any gusts of wind could carry them quite far as they are so light

You can't just bind any heli to any transmitter.

The Spektrum ones (dx6i etc) have DSM2 which you see on websites referred to as BNF or Bind and fly which I think is a trademark?
The Walkera ones don't work with Spektrum so wont bind to the mcpx or any bind and fly heli.
The Walkera 2801Pro transmitter I have will bind to all the Walkera helis, but I bought a dx7 as well so I could get a mcpx at some point and cheap spektrum receivers for my planes.

Then of course there is JR and Futaba with their own systems.

yea because syma 107g etc are toys and only 3 channel they are fairly basic, proper hobby grade helis need quite a few servos and they also use proper radio gear, the cheap ones are cheap because they use infa red transmitters with a range of about 10meters.

where as even a cheap(90quid) honey bee v2 can do this (in skilled hands)

its obviously to big to fly inside with its 20 inch diameter blades
