RC Helicopters

i think for me it's going to be practise practise and more practise. to be fair, it was my first attempt with no guidance. I spent most of the 2 hours last night getting it set up correctly. Once setup, it was then learning the controls and how they made the models react.

I fully agree with you on the quality aspects. I know some on here are going down the clone route, but I would be questioning whether its the standard of model or me which was causing bad flights. At least I know with a well setup align, it's going to be me which is bad flying than the model.

the bank balance will be getting another dent this week.....going to get a case for my DX7 and maybe invest in an indoor learner.

Yep I set the Belt CP up, trim it all and track the blades. Flys great the first few times then the blade tracking starts to go off and I have to trim it differently again. Does my nut in as each time I fly a new battery I have to adjust something. It just has sloppy linkages so doesn't always fly that stable.

Tempted to get to Align 450 sport v2 and sell it on. Was great for learning how to set up a heli and getting away from a training undercarriage so for how cheap it was it served the purpose I suppose :)

yea ive ordered a few spares from them and they always arrived very fast.

i think kings lynn model shop was cheaper for radio gear though by a fair chunk (its owned by the parents or some rc heli pilot thats well known afaik)

btw rhysduck it was me on the rcheli forums :P

i have looked at KL models and they are well priced on most bits, the radio kit i got was £215 from them and that doesn't include Phoenix.

all the threads i've read and people I've spoken to have advised me that a 500 would be ideal first 'proper' heli to learn with. It will be more stable than a 450 and not as much to crash as the 550 and above. Only issue is, for the FBL model its around £150 or so more :-(

I'm looking at around £580 for a complete FBL 500 kit. As mentioned above, this will be some way off yet though, unless i get impatient and buy it just to build while training.

lol RB... at least you can see there's a bit of skill envolved and not just a pick up and play type of hobby.
If you want to jump on MP session some time for some tips let me know :)

ha, arknor you stalking me ? :D

Take your time with the build and it'll take a few weeks easily :)

i'd be sorely tempted, always wanted to try heli flying

did drop you a trust message but have decided not to bother now. THere was a dx6, sim and MSRX kit on another forum for a decent price. I only need the model but by the time I've sold the dx and sim, it may not be worth the risk/hassle for a second hand MSRX.

Depending how my sim sessions go in the next week or so, I may just go to an MCXP V2 instead.

You're not giving up already mate are you?

nope.....i think i got the mcpx on heliadicts before you though :o I was too slow for the V2 but got the V1.

Reading up, the V1 is the model to have for the brushless mod anyway as the V2 doesn't like it. May look at doing that. It seems it's modded enough to only need the motor and ESC.

How's everyones builds coming on?

Yay!

I have fixed my T-Rex 450 after 5 years of it sitting in its box in small bits. Even blew 70 quid on a new Futaba S9254 servo for the GY401 Gyro as the old micro servo had a shredded gear from the last argument with a tree.

Unfortunately I have lost the charger for my field battery so I cant charge the LiPo's. One of my LiPo's is dead after using it to set the thing up again, I have another but there's not much left in that either. I went to the local hobby shop and bought a new charger for my Field Battery so I can charge the LiPo's but its not taking a charge at the moment. Arse.

But I am back in the game and remember why this hobby is so cool! :D

I just love building and setting the damned things up to perfection even if I'm not that good at flying them.

Overall I'm pretty pleased with myself *looks smug. :p Note to self, must not get back into the big nitro's as they are way to expensive for someone who spends more time digging his helo's out from the hole they have dug in the field than flying them ;)

Thread revival time....!

Chosen my first heli now, placing the order Monday.

Wanted to ask about postage from Hobby king. I was going to order some lipos which are the best part of 800gr each. Is 30$ the max or would it be per 2kg?

Cheers all....

Which warehouse (euro or HK)?

I've only bought 6S lipos (I assume by the weight these are 6 cell) from the euro warehouse. $17 USD for up to 5KG from there, and they arrive in 2 or 3 days from personal experience.

If you make an account at Hobby King and log in, postage is calculated and shown at various rates when you view your basket.

So what helicopter are you buying? Must be a decent size to carry a battery like that.

IM going to be taking the plunge on a bit of indoor fly soon, still not sure on what heli to go for, but when i get 5 mins. i will be reading through this thread. my misses may have to hide my wallet for a while though, i know expensive this RC business is like

Yeah, they are 6s batteries for a t-Rex550. I was tempted by the 600efl but the extra outlay, plus extra batteries put me off.
