RC Helicopters

The battery on the v912 is advertised at 7-8 minutes, I got 5 minutes of flying time on mine. Hopefully it will get better as I use it more.

Also tempted to fly the E-Razor 450 even tho I'm not 100% confident with the 912. Ive read the bigger hellies are better to fly.
 
I have picked up a bargain on ebay - a blade msr, i hear they are good to move onto from coax helicopters and the price was to good to turn down!

I will do it properly and learn on that one and then progress to some outside stuff when i can fly better.

My next question is about radio gear, i have some basic stuff to use but thinking of the future and being able to add other interests like quad copter etc. What do you guys all use, im pretty tempted by either a Turnigy 9x or an Orange t-six - will like it to be able to use DSM2 so would get the Orange module for the Turnigy but any advice or recommendations are most welcome!?
 
Get the best Transmitter you can afford... Period.

Bear in mind that compatible receivers for the DSM2 Technology (Spektrum) are slightly cheaper than compatible receivers for FASST/FHSS (Futaba), and the same goes for the branded receivers.
I learned to fly on Futaba and my dad and grandad have always had Futaba so I've naturally stuck with them, I considered Spektrum at one point but decided against it after reading many horror stories on the web, but don't let that stop you.

I have a DX6i gathering dust (all boxed and ready to sell) if you are interested (Just replaced the aerial), will come with no receiver though.

Probably about the best starter radio without spending a fortune!

Well i've got a hirobo sceadu evo 50 with hitec aurora 9 and haven't flown in a while. Bought myself a blade msrx rtf a couple of months ago, and have been using that to practice with along with phoenix rc sim. Just to keep my skills topped up. Haven;t done any 3d in a few years, but when the weathers decent aim to get the evo out and have some goes.

I've flown my msrx outside nearly 100% of the time, and it's handled it fine, can get twitchy when wind gusts but not had any problems yet. I take it on holiday with my and fly it outside the caravan, and normally it gathers a crowd.

I'm confused, if you are capable of 3d flight, why would you buy a 4 channel msrx to practise with?

seriously? if you're capable of flying 3d, or once was, you don't lose 2 channels just to get practice in!

4 channel models are a little past a toy to learn orientation at best. If you've flown 3d, you don't need to learn orientation again especially with the sim aswell.

don't understand that.....either that or his idea of 3d is a long way off my idea of 3d.

I bought it just as something to fly when it's wet, and the msrx meant I could fly indoors due to it's size. I've also got a twister cp v2 which is what I use in the sports hall where I work which can do 3d as well, but seems to be very twitchy.

Sure you do, if you fly indoors.

Good luck flying an Align 700 indoors, compared to an MCPx
 
Forget helicopters... what you need is a 4 rotor flyer with a camera. That way you can pretend it dropped out the sky nearly taking you out, and get on the news, and be famous for a 'drone' ;-)
 
Just had another crash. Luckily it was just the canopy and training gear that needs replacing :o. I sooooo need to join an rc club.

Damn this is a hard hobby to get into.

I'm selling a sim and my logo???

On a serious note, once you have got past the nervous initial take off, get rid of the training gear. It makes the heli very unstable and causes more hassle than its worth. Had mine on for 3 hovers and it came off once I'd taken off and landed a few times.
