My delta is an SAS model! I think it's called a star delta, last I heard you couldn't get 'em anymore. Makes them pretty rare I think. Shame :/
 
I've found it odd that ages ago when I was into racing rc cars, they were prety much all electric. All planes/helis where ic.
I went into the model shop yesterday and all the cars were nitro and most of the planes/helis where electric!

I had a lovely Ripmax Alliance which I managed to binbag after I got confused in the middle of an inverted low pass over the runway. :(

I started with a Twinstar which was great to learn on, I've still got a TwinJet but it's a bit heavy in flight. I must get some lipos for it.

Currently flying a filip 400 powered 6' span glider. Well currently as in when the weather conditions allow it, it's very light.

Anyone know with these ducted fan engines. How important the entrance and exit apertures are if it is embedded into the fuselage?
 
ok guys,

this has got me thinking, i have a nice big field out the front of my house.

I have always been interested in flying rc aircraft, what would be a good decent sized beginners air craft. Slow but fun to fly. And can take being landed in a field?

Would be looking for pre-built or mostly pre-built dont mind a bit of assembly and trimming.

Any of these would be ideal for the beginner.

All electric powered and mostly foamies. This means easy to set up and plenty of durability for the inevitable prangs. (And relatively cheap) Although its a US website so you're best off looking for similar models from a UK supplier. Have a browse through these http://www.sussex-model-centre.co.u...asp?id=47&cat=electric+ready+to+go+with+radio But not a delta wing, unless you fancy yourself something a bit tricky.

Don't be tempted by a large IC scale or aerobatic model = guaranteed disappointment!

Ive got:

60inch fully molded/carbon pylon racer for the slope
2meter Mini graphite, its a hotliner but also thermals. Kinda an all rounder
80cm pylon racer for the flat field, does in excess of 100mph
55inch Yak 54 aerobatic
43inch Hyperion sniper foamy crazy aerobatic thing


But as said by Goldy, dont go and spend loads on some flash plane as you will just crash lots and get p***ed off.
 
well got all the gear I ordered..

first was the epp foam shock flyer, what a PITA to build... horrible job. the hinges for the elevators etc had to be made by using uhu por glue, just a nightmare. whole job to build took about 5hrs

got the thing flying but it's so sensitive and in a small space outside my indust unit I just crash all the time... though managed to hover a few times on vertical. I think it will be fine once I get it in more space but the foam has so many cracks already (though have patched with epoxy). I think I have servos throwing too far, so will have to calm it down abit or maybe use expo on tx.


the rafale arrived today and first impressions are how well crafted it is... it's a work of art. assembly was just so easy, glue on wings and tail, landing gear, then hook up electronics...love the way all the electronics are housed under the canopy.

still got some finishing to do before I maiden fly her, but already taxi'd about, it really shifts in a straight line and the fan unit kicks out a lot of thrust.

so much fun messing with planes, cant beat the feeling of being a total noob, real learning curve, much the same as heli's were a year back.

Planes are much easier to fly. I've been flying planes for a few more months than helis and they are much easier, hovering a bit, loops, rolls, flat spins etc - with helis hovering, gentle forward flight! I find the planes really relaxing by comparison, helis require real concentration but are probably more satisfying because of it.


Amazing flying weather today. Did 12 packs. My brother in law was out with his slow stick too, I started with one a year ago and what a great trainer.
 
I quite hancy a foam shockflyer. But I think my GF would disown me if I bought another plane! It's quite funny that you are having trouble flying normally yet you can hover it (which takes some skill)... I wonder if thats the helicopter side of you coming out. :p

Well keep us update I am interested to hear how you get on.

Anyone starting out - take note of this. I tought myself on the slow stick too and I still have it. I can't think of a better plane to learn with. :)

rebuilt the shock flyer today without using the crappy uhu hinge method on control surfaces, discovered something called 'hinge tape' ...well, think it's just elastic / strong 3M tape but wow, what a difference.

now why didn't the makers of the shock flyer suggest using it :(, pretty much wrecked the plane using their method and trashed two of the servos. grrrr
 
looking to casually get back into this again, I used to fly them and actually worked for a r/c plane flight school, I have a few bits and bobs from old slow flyers i had but im going for a rtf to prevent messing about, http://www.storacingproducts.com/cessna-182-4-channel-p147.html
looks like a pretty good deal?, Lipo battery and geared 390 so should be pretty nippy? has anyone ever bought/ used one?

That's the boyo I'm getting next month, it was a tossup between that and a super cub, not much to choose between the two.
