It's actually quite a while since I did a full re-install of my PC and I was wondering what the correct order was for installing drivers so that it is a good base for installing the rest of my stuff!

My thoughts would be:

Windows XP Home +sp1 inbuilt on the MS disc.
Service pack 2
DirectX
Motherboard Drivers
Graphics Card Drivers
Sound card drivers

Windows Updates

Applications

Anyone have any other ideas?

I tend to think it's better to install the drivers you got with your mobo/gfxcard/soundcard before doing the Service Packs. The Service Packs might* find some drivers for your mobo/etc, and windows will use will these drivers when it finishes updating. But these Windoze Drivers, probably arent as fully featured as the drivers supplied with the hardware.

ati catalyst drivers state that service pack 2 should be installed before the graphics driver

Windows XP Home + SP2 Slipstreamed
Motherboard Drivers
Graphics Card Drivers
Sound card drivers
Windows Updates
Applications

Thats the steps I do every single time, for the updates and drivers I created myself a update CD containing every update since SP2, which uses a batch file to install every update from day1 SP2 was released.

My Drivers are also on the updateCD. If anybody would like the update CD I have it on a server which I made.

So basically I install the OS, boot the pc into windows and put in a CD, which does the rest for me then I reboot and install all the applications.

Hi Zen,
Could i get a copy of your update CD, it sounds pretty handy. It doesn't have WGA included in the updates, does it? ;)

download them,

use nlite to slipstream sp2, use ryanvm's update pack, and use nlite to integrate your drivers

then remove all the crap you don't need from windows -by far the best way to install xp on a home pc ;)

yes, I'm sorry but it kinda is for legit people only.

As its not a competitor I shall let everybody have it.
