Re improving wow performance

it must be a driver issue, because I can run wow max settings, all boxes ticked at 1920x1080 (close enuf) and I have a Pentium Dual core 2.5GHz, and a nvidia GTX260. And i got decent FPS everywhere. I reckon its driver problems. before spending money, do clean install, or dual boot and install everything from scratch, it may take a day but worth it if it works because it will save you a lot of money.

Hope this Helps.

Warcraft is CPU limited on ym old E5200 @ 3.6Ghz i would go into single card mode in dalaran and see the same fps as when both GPUs were active on my 4870x2.. since i upgraded my FPS even at mega peak times in darl @ weekend never drops below 80 +max settings.

ok so to clarify 1 overclock my cpu
2 if not upgrade my processor
3 if not check my psu
thanks for the info havent a clue about overclocking tho ill have to look into it

I'd probably put it more into an importance/relevance order of
1)Check your PSU is reasonable/not causing any issues
2)Look into overclocking
3)Consider a new processor.

Check your CPU usage in Dalaran like I mentioned above and see what your CPU usage graph looks like.
If you can put graphics settings up and not loose much in the way of framerate, its a pretty sure fire way to show thats your bottleneck.

ok so after graph checking i am running at 50% usage in dala wheras IF is 30-40 % there dont seem to be any major spikes will update on the psu this afternoon after i have had a chance to open the tower again thanks for the help.

With that cpu and a 5770 running the game at that low fps I would say you have an issue somewhere else. The 1st thing I would check is the memory settings. Its possible your memory is running slow and holding up your system.

Go into the bios and make sure you have the correct timings for your memory.

As i said it's CPU limited i only got 20 fps with a E5200 @ 3.6Ghz and a 4870x2 the game is being pushed behond it's grahpics engine capabilty and then you add the lag as well you get 20FPS - Afew things you can do is make sure the config file knows you have multicore CPU there are tweaks if you use google.

As i said other games ran perfect for me with that cpu even my Core i7 @ 4ghz can drop to 50ish during peak times @ darl on kazzak.

Overclock the CPU and you'll see the best yields.

No offence guys i am really grateful for the advice but i dont know a damn thing about overclocking my cpu and have heard it could break the thing so i am concerned about doing it same with checking mem speeds

Not played wow in a long while but was playing eq2 up until Christmas and gpu didn't make that much difference even when i under clocked it a lot, like it been said you need a strong cpu and memory helps as well.

If you look at my set up in my signature, I have problems with wow on that set up.
I can be running forward at 75fps, but as soon as I turn that camera, BOOM, spike right down to 10fps. It's one of the reason I stopped playing it, it's a right pain in the arse (Excuse my french).
My old £30 Nvidia graphics card preform's more consistently than my GTX260 on WoW. WoW is getting on now and has a strange needs for hardware! lol

Good luck to you runeholder, I wish you luck with your fps mission!

As long as you can read you can o/c in safety, look your chips max temp and max vore stay under them job done

Hey i own a 5770 and a C2Q@3ghz runs WoW grate everything on ultra except shadows which i had on the sceond highest setting had to fiddle about with the CCC settings abit though
Try going in to your CCC and make sure under the AA-Mode tab you have it set to Adaptive AA not MS-AA or SS-AA allso try playing around with the AI mode settings

I havent got my 5770 installed anymore as it was just a short term replacment while waiting for my GTX280 to be replaced but when i did it ran WoW at more or less identical FPS to my GTX280 30/40 in Dala on the same settings

Heres a link to a thread on the WoW forums about improveing FPS mainly relates to Nvidia cards but theres afew ATI posters in there aswell
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=12947276516&sid=1

I have a Core 2 Quad Q9550 running @ 3.5GHz, 4GB ram and a slightly overclocked 4870 1gb running 1920 x 1200 with settings max apart from shadows which are not even on any more. My dala fps at peak times is like 30 - 40 i guess and raids are even worse. 25mans i get somewhere between 20 and 30 fps on most encounters.

You can still add the comand line to your WTF in Config folder for a C2Q/Phenom II quad it's
SET processAffinityMask "15"
for an I7 for just physical cores i think it's
SET processAffinityMask "85"
For an I7 for all physical+hyperthreading it's
SET processAffinityMask "255"
Deafualt for for a dualcore is
SET processAffinityMask "3"

Fixed..he's trying an ATI card, his original card was Nvidia. :)

And he left the Nvidia drivers on which could well be his problem.

no left the nvidia drivers on but yes did have up to date cata driverrs

Fully uninstall the Nvidia drivers and it may be a good idea to do the same with the ATI drivers and reinstall them.

WoW is primarily runs on a single core, offloading some threads where it can to other processors. So running the fastest processor, MHz rating, for your motherboard would be the way to go - and then even overclocking it also.

So for WoW I would chose the fastest dual core processor posible for my motherboard and then, if performance wasn't sorted, overclock it some.
