Lovely Wolver-ampton!
Can anyone suggest a 2gb USB key that will work with Readyboost?

I've just got a 2gb from ebay but it's not fast enough for RB (which I didn't realise, just assumed any large size key would work!)

Thanks

Got a PNY one from a local shop. 2gb. seems to do the trick and i can actually feel an improvement in speed. saved me upgrading my hard drives!

still, only a matter of time before the lot needs replacing. think i'll get a mac next time (runs and hides)

You can enable any USB drive to be readboost compatible there isn't much of a difference. Technically the faster the read/write the better but it'll do you for now!

I don't know if you'll notice an difference, i'm only running 1gb of RAM on my lappy here and even i don't see much of an improvement with Readyboost (i also had high speed memory). I'm not too sure how worth loosing a handy 2gb memory stick readyboost really is. Just buy some more memory if you need it thats what i'm gonna do :)

I will post this again because it is important now that somebody has mentioned forcing any device to work *Sigh*
Just plugging the Flash device in will cause Windows to check it out and if it is fast enough it will give you the option to use this device to "Speed your system up".
If it doesn't meet minimum specifications you will not be given this option.

Now somebody came up with this wonderful way of forcing any device to be used as a Readyboost device even if Windows doesn't think it's performance is good enough.
Please - if Windows doesn't give you the option to use the device DON'T try and force it.
Windows is testing the device because for it to make any positive difference to your system it needs to meet certain speed requirements.
If your device doesn't then forcing it to work will only slow your system down.
You will be using a cache source that isn't running fast enough - sure you've forced it to "work" but it is working at lower than the specification Microsoft deem as the slowest.

Bottom line - if you plug in your flash device and are not offered the option to use it to speed up your system go and buy a new one.
They are throw-away priced these days, don't lower your system performance just to save a few £.

it would still be quicker then using the pagefile on HD would it not though? even if its slower then a proper flash. plus you have to remember that MS have chosen numbers which are conservitive, so iam sure you could get away with slight differences.

Just buy some ram is the bottom line. RAM costs nothing either really, sabe the £20 on a drive and put it towards real RAM in a few months... Readyboost isn't worth the time :p

Why waste your money. Readyboost is just Vista with a BRA. Its even fussy about its bust size. So even if you get a piece of memory that actually works with Vista for readyboost you may run into a lot of problems with the buffer size you require, or should I say Cup size.

That's a good answer, if you have spare slots. If you have a gig in each slot, and slow non SATA hard drives, it does appear to improve the overall speed of my system, with minimal outlay.

I use 4GB ram and 4GB ReadyBoost device,FYI it still gets used by Vista, they are handy to have, btw my board is maxed out on ram (4GB is limited) so no option to spend more money on ram unless I do a full upgrade.

End of the day ram and ReadyBoost together is better then just ram on its own,you can argue add more ram where possible but I'll take 4GB ram with ReadyBoost device anyday then just 4GB ram on its own.
