Real differences from high end air > water?

Well, as far as I can see, this thing will last me forever.

But then I'm the man who, when he specced his new house, built it with just not a CAT6 loop, but also a water cooling system for the PCs that heats the garage:rolleyes:@self

That's pretty cool :)

Nice indeed. I've thought about doing something similar but I think the wfe would leave me if I did. I got the idea years ago at an iSeries LAN; ghetto watercooling was just starting out and someone there had a domestic radiator bolted to the side of his case for passive cooling. If I recall he later got a contract to install a central loop in a trading office to vent the heat of all the PC's our to external radiators.

at some point before mid next year i will be able to afford a MM u2 ufo case, how long do people usually keep this? i mean is it a full time keeper for any build?

is it possible to get these with watercooling prefitted or is it going to cost more than it's worth?

might just do it, cant help but feel it might be more of a novelty though which would then turn out to be a big waste :p

just have to decide if it's worth the money or not. not to mention upkeep of it which would be more £

Great cases but you have to ask yourself whether you could live with somethig so big? And I'd go with custom watercooling.

Well like most people i don't move my case around so i don't think that's such a problem. Unless the case is a pain to get into once everything is fitted?

I was wondering if they can be prefitted with custom watercooling, if i was spending that much i wouldn't skimp on that :p

CoolIT Domino A.L.C. Advanced Liquid Cooling (SKT1366/AM2+)
all in one external liquid cooling box, and not expensive!

Ive never used water cooling myself (yet) my previous cpu was a q6600 @3.8ghz, 1.516 vcore, cooled by a TRUE black with 2 x 2000 rpm fans, max temps in p95 were 68-68-62-62, i got rid of the q6600 and got a q9550, unlapped cpu, runs at 54-50-46-46 under prime load, cooled by the same TRUE with 2 300-1200 rpm pwm fans, i think i could knock 5c of the temps if i stuck the 2000 rpm fans on the cooler.

They come to your specification, but the standard ones are drilled to take a PA120.3 at the 'front' and a PA120.2 at the 'back'. But you can also get combinations. The 120mm port under the drive rack at the front is big enough to get a PA160 in without any modification or you could have 10 PA120.1's if you wanted.

better to have 2 x 120.3's maybe? i thought one for the CPU and one for a dual GPU or 2 GPU's.

Also is everything you can get used just as good as when it was new?

are there any other good but cheaper cases than the mm ufo that can hold 2 120.3's?

There is a double height version of the UFO that holds more radiators than you can shake a stick at.

As for a good alternative then the Silverstone TJ-07 will hold two 120.3 radiators with just a little bit of cutting.

What you get used depends on what you pay for it and who you buy it from. Everyone has a trust rating on here, check that and you can see the people selling good stuff. Also - definitely ask for photographs and don't be shy about asking why people are selling stuff. Quite often it's not very good!

One possible snag though. The new Thermochill rads have 15mm fan spacing instead of the old 27.5mm. They are slightly shorter as well, not that that is a problem.

As for water cooling longevity, my setup was put together 4 years ago. At the time i had a socket 754 3700+/7800GT Sli rig which then got changed to a socket 939 4000+ Sli rig. Then it was changed to a socket 775 E4300/965P/8800GTS 320mb rig before being upgraded to a Q6600/X38/8800GT rig. The cpu was changed to a E8500 (rip) then E6600 and now my E8500/X48/4870 rig. Throughout all of these changes i am still using the same waterblocks/pump/res/rad and i have only just stripped the whole lot down for the first time in three and a half years. Surprisingly it was all very clean. The reason for the strip down was my new case and i took the chance to upgrade the rad to one of the new design PA120.3's and Yate Loon D12-SL12D's (120x38mm). If you pick good components in the first place then they will last you a long time and through many upgrades.

That wasn't a problem - it was an opportunity!

I had a pair of performance shrouds redrilled in Wales so they all lined up nicely. No problem at all.

You guys think it might be worth watercooling the CPU with a dual radiator, then just buying aftermarket air coolers for the GPU? all i want to do is lower temps and make it quieter.. that alone should make a big difference?

I'm not sure, but that would definately be easier.

o a water cooling system for the PCs that heats the garage

Good call. Does it work well? Curious as to how you're implementing it

TRUE to ek supreme + feser 120 took about 3 degrees off a q9550 but ran a bit quieter. An 8800gt on a feser 120 loads at 3 degrees above where it idles. Both on a single 120 performed almost the same as the true.

Sadly I'm yet to have anything running on more than a 120 for any length of time, but I can't see adding a 240 into the loop making things worse

edit: watercooled cpu and air cooled gpus is ok, but a bit backwards from the perspective of someone who likes quiet. Make sure there's still enough air getting to the gpu, as airflow through a 240 radiator is rather less than airflow without it. Plus the intake air will be warmer

I thought a good dual rad loop for the CPU and accelero coolers on next 2 gpu's i get

would that work well?

That way i can put the dual rad right at the back of my case on top and it should fit right on the 2 exhaust fans? and right by the CPU.

That's what I currently do. Although with a 120.3 cooling my Q9450. the GPU is using the stock HSF. That way it's not a pain the the butt to swap GPU's and it's still very quiet when browsing the net, etc. When I start gaming I have headphones on anyway so noise isn't an issue.

I used to watercool the NB and GPU's but I couldn't be bothered when I changed GPU's - it would also have meant buying another block.
