RealID to show Real Name - WoW, SC2 ...

Someone can't take being ganked so goes around to dish out some real justice.....how long before this happens.

A long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long, long time.

Chances are slim sure but it does happen... its only not happened more frequently because uptil now 9/10 people on the internet are fairly anonymous.

I'll also point out that the whole idea is to stop people trolling on forums, this is not happening in game, and if your all as paranoid as you obviously are then you'll stop trolling the forums as your scared someone will come and rape you at night. So when you say people are going to quit the game? How many will do that because they can no longer post on the official forums? Absolutely no one.

Considering this has happened before in Counter-Strike where no real names are involved this won't make any difference. If someone REALLY wanted to find you they would regardless. You're not really making it any easier giving them your real name.

Out of random interest... theres an outstanding arrest warrant for a Jacob Lupton (age 29) in the US - probably not you but... see where this could go...

I thought RealID was going to be a but like Steam Shift-TAB so you can talkto your friends on Starcraft 2 whilst you play WoW (for example)?

Also, I thought I read that you can only see your friend and your friends friends...no further?

From what I have seen it is being used ONLY in forums (to remove trolls) and in game friends lists but only if you both agree to use the REAL ID system rather than ingame tags. Your toons are not all going to be renamed to your name and your name wont show up on ingame mails, chat channels e.t.c.

So... DONT WANT YOU REAL NAME DISPLAYED? DONT POST ON THE FORUMS! SIMPLE.

No need for this storm in a tea cup nonsense

Maybe some people want to post on the forum without the whole world knowing too many details about their private life?

I've heard of this happening before as well, but only when one mouthy little kid gave out all his details e.g. his address, phone numbers e.t.c. and then the adults he was mouthing off to also happened to live in the same town by coincidence. Since none of that info is being handed out, theres not an issue

Going back to a basic discussion about this, how will having real names shown add anything to the games expirence? I know that trolls will back off but surely they will just use fake name after fake name?

Oh and yes I DO get it, Blizzard employee with rare name who we know must live in california is easy to find... Assuming your not an idiot and giving out other info about yourself there is no problem. Come on, i'm more than happy for you to post all that info about me because it is apparently so easy. He admits to being a blizzard employee on facebook for gods sake.

Your missing the point... sure your details might not be that easy to find (tho I'm sure with the electoral roll and a bit of detective work I could come up with it) but someone with the same name is almost definitely out there easy to find on google... someone you annoyed online might not make the distinction.

This is ****ing hilarious, do none of you realise how many people in the world have the same name? Dozens! Just type your name into facebook and have a look, and then remember that the majority of people dont use it.

Exactly a name is nearly useless unless it's rare.

However a unique user name like oizu will tell you a great deal of thing, like you play far far too many MMo's and suck at using ubuntu. :p

Quiet martin :p

He isn't on the electrol roll, so he can't be old enough to vote, but it does mean when he is Mr Jacob Lupton would be very easy to track down.
