Realising Obvious Things (that Blow Your Mind)

Most female calves will be reared to join the milking herd but male calves will either be shot after birth or sold to be reared for veal or beef. The number of calves being shot at birth has greatly decreased and more are now reared for meat.

I've never heard of male calves being shot at birth. From a practical point of view that's a complete waste of an animal that can be reared for beef and provide income for the farm. You sure this isn't some wacko animal rights bull***?

I though I had my own "special" way of converting from a 12hr clock to a 24hr clock when I was 10-ish, until I told my maths teacher who brought my little joy crashing down to earth -

Here's my super secret way - ready??? - If you add 2 to the "units" number, then add an extra ten to the "tens" number it converts it - WOW!!!!

Yeah, all I'd done is just added 12 and had absolutely no idea until my teacher told me :D

On a piano, a C sharp key is the same as a D flat. The same goes for all the black keys, they're sharp of the white key to the left and flat of the white key to the right. That was a real penny drop moment on Grade 1 music theory.

Musical pitch wasn't standardised until the middle of the 20th century. That must have been a nightmare for touring singers.

I thought that had been standard since Bach.

Aha, I had a similar epiphany when I was a similar age. I thought I was a genius. Mum asked me to prove it on some other times.

The stupidity of people in general. It’s easy to forget that a lot of people struggle with basic reasoning and logic. This always seems to catch me off guard when reading these forums, perhaps we need a reminder flag next to the reply button!

I have seen older calves with a sort of gate thing in their nose that falls down to stop them suckling when they need to get weaned, so they get to stay with the mother longer, without getting hurt by the mother driving them off to make them stop drinking milk.
this is likely what you're thinking of and it's designed to cause the mother discomfort when the calf tries to feed so she doesn't it

All notes can have a sharp or flat, but not all sharps and flats will be black keys. :)

The one that I saw was just a flat plastic piece that drops in front of the calf's mouth so that it couldn't get the teat into it's mouth, rather than something spikey to make the cow move away.

Tbh I can't stop thinking of the "milking" in ice age:cry:. If you not seen it, the sloth tries to milk a male then is seen running off. Its a kids film but obviously kids won't get that bit:D.

When you look at your reflection, you're not seeing what other people see when they look at you.

Eg a mole on the left hand side of your face appears on the right hand side of your mirror image.

You can't see your eyes move. Your brain literally disables the input from your eyes every time they move. It's called saccadic masking. There's a whole range of crazy stuff your brain does to your perception, including affecting your perception of time and putting things into place past the time when they happened.

Look at your eyes in a mirror and move side to side
