My parents' mobo has died and it's an old socket A one, they got a friend to have a look and he said that the CPU and memory will need replacing too as they're too old which sounds about right to me. So basically, looking for mobo, cpu and ram for about £150. It's only going to be used for emails and internet so nowt fancy but good enough to last a few years.

cheers.

If the PC did everything they needed to do before it died, why not just replace the board with an identical one. Then you won't even need to reinstall Windows or any applications.

just due to the price compared to the future-proofness really. it's quite hard to find and it's about as expensive as a new one.

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Socket 939) - OEM

<noob> do any of these have built-in gfx? </noob>

Generally only mATX motherboards do now (in fact I haven't seen a full sized motherboard with onboard graphics for a very long time). If that is important then this lot may be suitable. I'd generally prefer not to go with Sempron but for the specified uses it will be more than sufficient. :)

Great spec for the money. And Sockey AM2 which is always helpful :)

that looks perfect. eeeexcept it's out of stock, and I need to get it built before I go back to uni on friday. is there any other boards?

I still see the motherboard as being in stock here, as is the Ram and CPU, maybe try a hard refresh (Ctrl + F5) to see if that cures it? If not just pick an mATX AM2 motherboard that makes reference to onboard graphics for the level it will be used at it makes little difference. :)

system is dead :( i've followed all the instructions right, the only thing is that i have a 20-pin power cable and the the connector is 24 but the instructions said that it would work but possible be unstable. i'm hoping it's not another PSU as i've not got any spare parts to check..

Got a DMM?

Follow this to test the PSU.

Is this build with the new parts?
