really easy spec

what's a DMM? yeah it's the new parts. tbh, i think it's fairly likely the PSUs died, just didn't want it to be because it's only new and it's not my computer...

edit: tried the test, nowt. what cheap 24pin PSU could i get?

Pretty much anything would do for a system that low spec but buying from OcUK something like an FSP 400w is probably about the cheapest and best option. :)

If you are really desperate to save a couple of pounds then B-Grade might be worth a look although you don't save all that much.

DMM = Digital MultiMeter.

You've gone from Socket A that loves 5volts to Socket 939 that loves 12 volts.
When socket 939 first came out, many had problems with older PSUs.
Would seem an awfull shame if it was only the PSU that was at fault in old system, hence it's always best to test them.

My brother in law was in same boat as you...shop told him PSU might be dead, and sold him one for £50.
PSU was fine, it turned out to be mobo.
You would think that PC shops would test a PSU, but some just sell you a new one instead.
It's possibly the easiest thing to test as well.

TBH socket A has still got some life in it, I would just buy a socket a board from the ocuk clearence section (they have tonnes) and maybe some more ram.
