Really lost/E6750 + Asrock

I did a test on 3.6Ghz but it started flashing red, so I take that as a fail, plus temps were up to 69C, so if I up the volts it might pass the test but temps will be even higher.

I dropped down to 3.5GHz and ran a test and seems ok, I know I only ran it for 7min 33 seconds, but temps didnt go over 64C.

So what do you think I should do mate?

I think its probably because I dont have the best memory in the world:)

i'd leave it at 3.5 and just run orthos for a couple of hours, if thats stable take the voltage down a notch at a time til it fails then up it slightly.

then run it overnight if possible, or check out any games you might play as they tend to be pretty good at picking up dodgy overclocks :D

I've been running tests for about 4 hours now on and off, but sometimes the computer just shuts down and reboots. Is this normal or would it be my PSU is too weak?

Ttried using 3.6GHz and 3.5GHz but temps where going up to 71C and stable but I'm sure you guys would be thinking thats to high.

So Gonna test now at 3.4GHz @ 1.35000v as after 20mins on lower volts it reboot.

I would be happy with 3.4GHz if I can get it right, I dont do gaming, I dont play games at all, I just rip DVD's, use ConvertXtoDVD and Nero. The rest is just Downloading and browsing.
Just like to have folders opening quick and maybe browse the net while I'm burning a DVD or Encoding:)

Heres what I got so far.

Setting are 3.4GHz @ 1.35000 volts, Max temp went to 67C. So what do you think guys, would that be ok?
I'm gonna run it over night just to make sure.
Just wondered why when I'm running @ 3.5GHz & 3.6GHz the temps go to 71C which is only a 4C difference and a whole lot quicker. I know the volts are higher but would it still be safe enough to run as I dont do gaming?

I'd be lost without ya's guys:)

71C under load for 3.6GHz with that cooler is fine. As the thermal paste cures, the temperatures will drop a couple of degrees anyway and as you enter the cooler temperatures of the Autumn, I reckon you'll see another drop down to about 65C.

And if the machine is just dropping off the face of the planet for no reason, it's usually a lack of volts somewhere.

And - if you can publish an 8hr screenshot of Orthos at 3.6GHz, I think you will hold the world record overclock for an air-cooled Core2Duo in a 650i Ultra board. I've seen 3.8GHz with an E6600 on my own system with water cooling, but I couldn't get over 3.4GHz with air cooling, so you're really storming away there!

Ok Guys,

After a bit off time and effort, I fitted another 120mm Fan on the side off the case, wasn't built to fit but I drilled a few holes and attached it to keep the temps down.
Then I ****** about with voltage and kept becoming unstable after 2 hours, so up 2 each time.
So finally at 1802(3.6GHz) @ 1.4687 Volts we got stable, an man I'm glad its sorted.

Heres the computer sitting Idle just after the test:

And heres the final result:

Seeing as I skipped a Volt setting I'll drop down one tonight before going to bed and see if it runs stable at the lower setting maybe bringing the Temps down a bit more, as for now I'm over the moon.
I couldnt have done it without you guys also a special thanks for WJA96 for taking the time putting up the setting that saved my life.

So I'm more confident now, thats it......I'm an addict, God knows where it will end now.........lol:)

Thanks again guys & thanks Overclockers for a No1 Forum.

P.S. Checked the log and Temp never went over 67C.

Yeah, well Pleased mate. I've actually brought the speed back down to 3.4GHz as thats plenty for what I use the System for, temp actually went up to 35/33 Idle, but as I say, the heat here is unbearable, I even have all windows open and still toasted:)
Maybe in the winter I'll stick it back up to 3.6. As mentioned, by then the compound will have set in.
Thanks again for your help man, I'd have been seriously lost without you and all the guys on the forum. May you all live too 100......lol:)

P.s. No offence taken about the ram, I'll get around to upgrading it sometime, always knew it was a bit crap:D

"Just back down to 2.67Mhz its normal setting. Dont want to burn the processor out. Looks as though I spend £90 yesterday for nothing guys, seriously bummed at that"

oh how short a time 3 days is :D

good to see u;re happy with the setup :)

if the fan has made a difference try leaving the case side off see if the temps differ.
