Really quick question...

necessarily :p

Overclocking doesn't void the warranty, don't forget that ATi has overclocking built in to their very own drivers.

To say overclocking voids the warranty would be equal to say that upping the AA to 8X does too. :p

Thanks :p My spelling isn't my strong point :p

And yeah haha, quite true. I did read however that overclocking the 5870 doesn't give you that much of a performance boost compared to other cards; 5850?

Things run better at lower temps (not to the point of being cold) but i like to try and keep my components below 50 , apart from the GPU which just gets the fan set at full speed when gaiming. sits around 75-80

Things run better when they're not overheating, however the manufacturers and engineers know the temps that hardware is good to work at.

To get nervous over a figure you've set yourself is a bit odd considering it's entirely unrelated to the hardware itself.

I'm not knocking liking low temps of course, they're beneficial for overclocking and such, but I don't quite get why you feel nervous over a figure you set yourself.

Technically speaking, yeah, but that's because a 5850 starts at a much lower clockspeed, and all 5850 and 5870 GPUs tend to overclock to the same amount, so it makes sense to say the 5850 has the larger headroom.
