Hey all, its upgrade time and I am desperate to get my hands on an android phone! Was looking at the G1 and I really like it, not fussed about poor battery as I own an N95, plus looks dont bother me either as I am all about the functionality.

Only problem is, where I work it seems to be a bit of a tmobile / virgin black hole with no signal :( My gf is 6 months pregnant so dont really want to be un-contactable.

I work in a 'trendy' design agency as head of web, and if I had to resort to buying an iPhone, all the apple fan boys and girls here would mock me forever so thats pretty much not an option (its a nice bit of kit but so much better out there). Anyone know if any android phones are out in the near future on o2 (my current network) or not locked to a single network?

yeah but then gotta pay for a handset AND a contract which is crazy :p

anyone brought one of those kogan agora's from AUS yet?

I tried looking on their site but cannot find it anymore... Has it been taken off or am I blind? I was watching that very closely and something along the same sort of lines I'd be considering already (I love my G1, but I really was very keen on what I saw in the Kogan model).

Kogan got delayed because of finance issues.

Basically don't expect it anymore. By the time it were to be released it wouldn't be able to compete with any other android phones on the market.

Rumours about different companies making Android phones but no hardware rumours. You're looking at about 2 - 3 months before something new is available.

google are selling unlocked "developer" G1s for around £250 (last time i checked)
you have to register as a developer which costs a small fee, then you can buy the phone

ooh sweet good call EirePlane :) as it happens i am a developer and will deffo be looking into making my own apps.

how would it work with the 3g on non tmobile network?
