Just put I Am a Bird Now by Anthony & The Johnsons on my Hi Fi.

Now whilst it's far from my favourite album (I am not all that keen on the dominant subject matter and his voice irritates me a little after a while), I appreciate that it is musically a very good album, and there are certain aspects I really enjoy (The clean sounds, the soft piano and so on). It is also well recorded.

Anyway can anyone recommend any really good albums that are very well recorded? I am open to all genres, but as I now have what I would consider a mid-range hi fi (and one that can definatley tell make a badly recorded album stick out like a sore thumb- recent examples being The RHCP's, The Cooper Temple Clause, The Editors isn't that great, etc) I would really like to hear some well recorded stuff in all its glory.

Thanks

Myself and two friends were picking out some albums last night to test out on a new system... looking specifically for well recorded ones.

My personal favourites are David Gilmour - On An Island (not because of the songs on it but for the production) and Marillion - Marbles (because it is well produced and flippin' brilliant!) :D

Metallica's black album. regardless of whether you like the music or not, its one of the finest produced albums you'll find.

The Corrs albums sound good and don't have processed sound to them (older folk not the newer pop albums) Lene Marlin too

from what i've heard the latest album was absolutely dreadful.

Paul McCartney - Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard
Its like being sat in Abbey Road

Manic Street Preachers - This is My Truth Tell Me Yours

Def leppards Hysteria. True epic stadium sounding. I do like a lot of mutt langes productions though. Extreme Waiting for the punchline has a great clear live sound to it. I thought killswitch Engages End of heartache sounded really good. for me it stands out from other hardcore stuff.

Sorry. But your having a laugh. While Def Leppard were pretty good up to that point theres no way that album is a production classic.

If you want an album with good production i would stay clear of rock and mainstream tbh. One of the main jobs of a producer in that environment is to make the band work well and tbh the sound quality comes second.

Would be more inclined to try modern classical, but dont ask me what though.

Jewel - This way is a very fine album, very clear and sounds great. best she has made to be honest, her earlier albums are worth checking out to.

I'd a agree about Katie Melua as well, it's a great album.

R.E.M and Radiohead always produce something so very specil it tingles the hairs on your back. as does Thom Yorke (listen to it with headphones on;) ) or Johnny Greenwood;)

William Orbit - Peaces in a modern style is a modern master peice.
chicane - again produce some good stuff.

I'll probably get murdered here for this, but I have to say that Bjork never makes a bad record;) and it's worth checking out Homogenic, Post or Debut all are musically fantastic.

Also I'm going to broaden everyones musical horizans and say check out Majorie Estiano's self titled album, she is Brasilian and her songs are all in Portuguese but it sounds great.
