Really WELL recorded Music?

Which version of Gish do you have?? The rough?? the original release?? Or the re master??... I use the original release and it is/was the spur for me asre rock recordings... Huge fat sound close miced etc etc.. Of all the criticisms leveled at the album, "Sounding like it was recorded in a bathroom" would be the very last comment I'd make about it.. That, to me, sounds like a phase issue in however you are listening to it... If i do have a criticism, it would be that the Bass end is a tad hyped with the compression used on it...

Stereophonics - just enough education to perform (think its that one)
Most of the 'phonics stuff is average at best in terms of recording quality.

Well they came today- and what can I say... Marillion's album sounds sublime on my system- clearly top-notch recording and an excellent album too :)

Shame about Maximo Park's dire record quality- Sounds like they had the treble fader at +10 and compressed it to 96K MP3.

try Diorama by silverchair...a generally hated album by anyone who likes silverchair, for not sounding like silverchair...but I love it...The recording and production on it is mindblowing...the sound, clarity, and the way all of the orchestrial parts are weaved in, is nothign sort of magic...mindblowing

I have always rated Steely Dan very highly with regard to production, all instruments & vocals are very crisp & clear and easy to pick out.

Take a look at: The Best of Steely Dan: Remastered

Good thread! I've got heaps of stuff I listen to not because I particularly like the song or band but the production totally makes them great.

Mike Oldfield is a good one to go for on that. I was going to recommend William Orbit too but see it's already mentioned... the stuff he did with All Saints has got stonking production on it even though it's totally not my cup of tea style wise. Fiona Apple has some funky production on her records aswell if you like that kind of thing.
