He is right. Look at the opening sequence compared to the pre-rendered video they showed a year ago, you can't see anything but fog. Will still most likely be a good game, the fact that they've had to make huge compromises is uindeinable. Just look at the colour palette, it's a textbook RAM saving method.
The footage was about showing us the small details; in an early build it's often not a good idea to show open areas, as the larger the area, the easier it is to see how incomplete and unfinished it is. It's also easier to see more complete details and lighting in enclosed areas. That's probably why the developer showed us a small area. I've no doubt we'll get our fair share of large open areas in the finished game. It's still a long way off, spring/summer 2008 last I heard.
The first Killzone -before it was released- was seen as being a possible "Halo Killer". However, when it was finally released, it was greeted with a mixed critical reception.
I'm not a big fan of the art direction in this one. The colour pallate seems to consist of about 8 colours (all shades of grey). I had the same complaint with Gears of War. Compare Killzone 2 to it's biggest rival, Halo 3 and you'll see what I mean.
Yep i agree everything does lok a bit grey, although i'm sure war and death is meant to be that way. Personally i changed my TV settings to 'warm' and 'lucid' in the gears settings which did colour things up a little better.
Look at MGS4, right now it looks like a limited colour palette but it has already been confirmed that all of the game does not take place in the middle east. Even if you look at MGS3, much of the game was green but later on look at what they did with the white flowers. I don't think people should be concerned at this point until they show more levels.
Edit: Also, Gears of War hyped up the 'destroyed beauty' part of the game. However none of it was beautiful, it was just dirty old buildings which had been bombed. I think already this game has shown better artwork, even if it has ripped off an old movie for the character design of the enemies
if killzone one didnt have such a bad framerate, i reckon it would have been a lot better.
I personnally enjoyed it a lot, and they look like they are putting more effort into this one, and in an earlier interview they said they are actually gonna use the cell effectively for destructable enviroments and stuff.
