Rear Arch Rust on S2000

A good question !

Up bright and early today to give it a go.

Started off by giving the arches a really good go with 1200 wet and dry. In places I gave it a go with my Dremel to try and speed things up.

I decided to sand the entire arch lip down, and im glad I did. This exposed more rust that hadnt started to make the paint bubble yet.

After about 3 hours, the arches looked like this

All the rust had been sanded down, and in the main, down to bare metal. There were some areas with slightly black parts, but I couldnt seem to get rid of this. After discussion with NickXX I decided I'd move onto putting on the kurust.

After applying this, the rusty areas turned a bluey/purple colour, and after the full 3 hours of drying, they looked black.

Whilst this dried, I waxoyled both of the rear arches, no pictures sadly as I only realised that I hadnt taken any after the car was off axle stands and I had packed away !

Edit - Just nipped out and done one, not great, but gives you an idea !

I then applied the paint. This is just a first coat, and a second coat will follow tomorrow

Once I have applied the next coat and it has tried my plan was to 'seal' the area with vaseline, and then put the arch rubbers back on. Keen for feedback on whether this is the best course of action.

Do you ever clean the inside lip when you wash the car? This is how rust starts in the first place, because of the wet mud soaking into the little crevisis and not drying out for weeks.
