Reasonable hour?

In Speaker's corner threads are generally expected to have a bit more content :) Perhaps you could fully explain the topic you want to debate, and give your opinions on it.

edit - it's been moved now.

I presume (hope!) that the police only raid houses when they have sufficient evidence of serious crimes taking place, or stashes of guns/drugs etc. so any time is OK in my book.

I was just reading the code of practise and it says all raids on properties must take place at a reasonable time of day.

Who defines whats reasonable?

I'd say 9AM-5PM, but what do you all think?

I think its fair to say that the police are well within their rights to break down your doors, stamp and shout their way through your house while terrifying the **** out of your children at any time they like...

That and what Anarchist said about when they have reason to belive you are committing a crime

Why do you ask.

Becasue the fuzz found his stash... or maybe the PC police have asked him for a time he considers reasonable that they can raid his premises

Gotta be one of those two for sure.

Dear Sir,

We have reason to believe that you are harboring terrorists, and have a large number of powerful weapons in your basement.

Please contact us at your convenience and let us know a reasonable date and time when we can come around and search for the above.

Thank you,

The Police

If they have good cause to raid a house then any time is good to be honest. Tough luck if they get woken up, they shouldnt have been selling drugs, arms, etc etc or whatever it was they were doing before the raid.

The way I see it, anybody doing something against the law does not deserve such kind treatment. Especially "oh let's not wake them up before 9" and such treatment.

They're breaking law, and if I was a cop wanting to raid their house, I would do it at the earliest hour in the morning possible.

In the County Durham/Stockton area, drug raids are normally performed at 7-8am.

After watching many a crime/police documentary TV show they dont seem to care what time they wake you up. Fair play to them, if your going to selling hooky microwaves you should be prepared to have an early start :D

Apparently it was illegal immigrants

When asked who the were and where they were from one replied:

"Im an alien, im a legal alien"

What about the old adage "innocent until proven guilty"? Surely a raid on a house is to ascertain evidence therefore they're technically still innocent.

But equally you cannot raid a house without reasonable grouds for suspicion.
