Reasonable hour?

What about the old adage "innocent until proven guilty"? Surely a raid on a house is to ascertain evidence therefore they're technically still innocent.
What about that old adage?

What's to stop the police raiding a suspect's house, at any time they please?

The earlier the better IMO. 4am would be a cracking time. :)

But equally you cannot raid a house without reasonable grouds for suspicion.
Yes I know but he was going on like they've already been tried and punished. People still have rights even if they are guilty. I understand the need to raid a house at a very early time in the morning so they are unaware and can't destroy evidence for example, but just raiding in the middle of the night to annoy the assumed guilty is a bit harsh

Who said anything about annoying the assumed guilty?

I would say it's more to do with inconveniencing them.

9-5 restricts the police quite heavily, personally Id say 8am-9pm? Seems reasonable to me, 13 hours of raiding time :D

I did. You raid a house to gain evidence. This usually implies that you haven't convicted them yet. Therefore they're not guilty.

Oh so what you say goes, eh?

Why should the police convenience suspects? Why shouldn't the police knock suspects up at 6am?

24/7 what a silly question. if they have belive theres something in the house, then any time is resnable. What happens if they have suspision its going to move within an hour or so and its 3am..

the police came round to my house the other week at 6.15 the other day. Housemate answered the door slightly bleary eyed to be confronted by two policemen in stab vests looking for illegal immigrants!

turns out the guys that had the house before my friend bought it about a year ago were ever so slightly dodgey (the fact the loft had carpeting, net and tv points and a lock on the outside shoulda really rang some alarm bells...)

so he politely asked them for some id, told them he was pretty sure i was born in guildford and they went on their merry way.

All in all i'm not too bothered about them doing raids etc early in the morning if they have a higher chance of catching people, makes sence really as if they did them at the same time the post usually turns up there proberbly won't be anyone home, and its not like they can put a little card through the door

"Hi, the we called at _______ but you were out, please report into your local police station in the next week bringing photo id and any illegal activities you may partake in with you, regards Pc Plod"

Unless you happened to live next door. Police raid my neighbour @ 4am and wake me I'd go out and give them a piece of my mind...

why are you guys complaining, if it happend in your street weekley yeh its a probablem. But thats not the case you'll be unlucky to have it once in your life. I'm sure you can cope with one tiered day, to catch criminals.

Haha, right okay then. We'll just see how you like being treated when you possibly get caught up in a criminal investigation...innocent of course! :)

I don't mind, I need a new front door anway.

they would have to use the back tho as the fronts double glazed and only opens from the inside etc

in Tyne and Wear it tends to be early morning 7-8 am as you are pretty much guaranteed your supects will be there and in bed..which means they are more disorientated when you kick the door in and they just wake up

Hmmm well when my middle brother, who quite a few yrs ago went out got drunk with a few mates and then proceeded to mug a guy with a playgun was arrested, the police were knocking at our door at about 6am. Woke the whole bloody house up lol :p. But yeh they can come round anytime they feel like it i guess especially if they have a warrant.

I'm not going to go into too much detail.
Personally I feel any time is fair game - if you've commited a crime that warrants the police coming out on a raid then there shouldn't be any fixed hours these raids can take place.
Sure mistakes happen and it's not unheard of at all for the wrong house to be raided, but it is rare.

The not too much detail - I've seen a RL raid at 7:00am and found that an acceptable time (obviously at the time I didn't think so (not that I'm saying the RL raid I saw was anything to do with me))
However the real life "Raid" wasn't a door break in job, it was just a knock and entry.

I'm happy with them coming in at any time they deem necessary to get the results but what I objected to was them doing it in the middle of the night to "show them a lesson". I think we can all agree on that :)
