Reasonable use

Afternoon,

Around 12 months ago i purchased a vax upright vacuum cleaner from tesco.

It uses fitters on both the motor and the main tank.

It no longer sucks due to the filter being full so i figured id order some new filters again to fix. Turns out that they no longer make this filter type.

I am a bit annoyed as i expect to receive a reasonable amount of use out of a vacuum before it needs replacement. My dyson lasted many years before i changed to the vax.

As my unit is now obsolete in a meer 12 months. I feel this is unjust.

Is there any way i can receive some come back. I.e. do i contact the manufacturer or the retailer.

What legislation would i be able to use to accomplish this?

Maybe i am being unreasonable ?

Many thanks

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice but I don't think you're being unreasonable. I would not expect an appliance to be unusable (and it sounds like it is) 12 months after point of sale, unless it was heavily discounted when you made the purchase.

I would contact Vax or just buy from the internet. The filters should be easy enough to find.

Either way, your gripe is not with the retailer.

What model Vacuum is it?

Tesco.
So wouldn't surprise me if it was end of line stock that they got dirt cheap.

Can you not clean them out?
When did they stop making these particular filters? If they've already stopped, it sounds like it was well old by the time you bought it.

Phone your local Trading Standards - They will be best placed to advise on all these aspects, and their legal advice is free.

Thank you for the replies. The model is

I bought it from tesco as the Dyson decided to die mid clean up when decorating when I moved into my new home. I had to go to Tesco as it was the only shop open at 10pm. The filter kit states it needs a type 96 which I can't find.

I am not sure washing will work, the reason for it being so clogged was I had a bright idea to vacuum out the ash from my log burner which promptly clogged the filters and sent the ash around the room from the vacuum vents.

Edit!!

They have a decent TP rating too:

Yeah, not a lot of vacuum cleaners will handle that. The particles are pretty small and I recall reading something about manufacturers stating not to use their kit for this, invalid warranties and so on... Certainly we've (ie the wife has) killed two Vaxes ourselves doing just this.

Put model number here we will link you filters.

Or wash them

I can buy filters on eBay for my mum's 22year old vacuum cleaner....
